CORRADO4LIFE 0 Posted December 5, 2003 I tested quite a few b4 i got my little beauty, i would say that it is mostly in the drive of the car and the overall tidyness of the motor. I drove a few newer models that drove like dogs with less miles on the one i have now. Make sure they have full SH and have had cam belt, gasket's, chargers etc looked at. Don't be afriad to keep going back to look at one car and drive it as much as you can to the extent of p1ssing off the owner, you wonna be able to buy and walk away with that feel goof feeling of buy in a minter! TDK 0 Posted December 5, 2003 EXACTLY!!! cheers mr corrado4life this is a car i want to drive not stare at!! it was a 95 2.9 VR6 its on autotrader the car didn't make a sound it was such a smooth ride from inside my mate said it all seemed to be how it should except two things he was wary of were 1) that there was a small oil leak but it wasn't falling onto the ground but he could see it down the side of the engine and 2) there was a bit of tapping from the engine not really sure what no.2 means! but he said it was something that probably should be looked at. if i do see the "right" one then i was going to get one of the RAC checks just so that i'm 100% in myself that itst the right thing to do
TDK 0 Posted December 5, 2003 cheers for sending us in the direction of your post about corrados i think i'll probably print a copy off and take it with me!
VR6 0 Posted December 5, 2003 This is the actual buyers guide http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5124 The one posted before is the draft guide - a sort of work in progress. There is also a Word document checklist at the bottom which is a cut-down version.

TDK 0 Posted December 6, 2003 i've just seen another one that i'm going to look at on wednesday which looks good but its automatic? are they bit lame compared to manual or not cheers
dubster82 0 Posted December 6, 2003 its an automatic. get a real car  *dons flame proof suit....*:lol:
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 6, 2003 I wouldn't bother with an auto although they do have a wicked kick-down, but a manual is faster and more enjoyable and a lot cheaper should you encounter gearbox problems. Forget about converting from Auto to manual to save some pennies, it's not worth it. Get the 95 manual as it sounds OK to me. K
TDK 0 Posted December 6, 2003 ok cheers yer i thought it could be a poor excuse for the real thing the reason i was interested in it is because the car is in a proper garage and will come with warranty however i've been told that if you get an RAC check they provide some sort of warranty for a period which could be worth investigating the other one was nice i can't stop thinking about it (jokes) i will check out this manual one i've seen then go see the automatic but do you honestly think "forget the automatic"? vr6corrado 0 Posted December 6, 2003 An auto just isn't as fun as a manual and yes it is a bit slower. I agree with kevhaywire - go for a manual.
VR6 0 Posted December 6, 2003 Unless it's really cheap, I'd forget the automatic. Just IMO.
TDK 0 Posted December 6, 2003 ok its the most expenisve out of them all i dont' want to be bored!
TDK 0 Posted December 6, 2003 oh yea what do you pay for tax on 2.9 VR6?
Jim 2 Posted December 6, 2003 Well it'll be top bracket! Anything above a 1.8 litre engine is.
VR6 0 Posted December 6, 2003 Crap ...... just realised that my tax might have run out!! Ah well, there's another £170!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 6, 2003 Not sure what you mean by tax (road tax? - full whack I'm afraid) but the thing with fluid flywheels is they dull the acceleration and engine braking is non existent, so brake services are more frequent. Autos are fabulous in heavy stop-start traffic but on the open road you will be constantly using kick-down to keep up with a manual - therefore your mpg will take a nose dive. You're looking at well over a grand to replace an auto box, sure it'll out-live a manual (providing you don't bend the torque convertor blades by too many 4000 rpm 1st gear take-offs) but you can rebuild a manual twice for the same outlay or buy 4 used manual boxes. Trust me mate, you'll get bored of the auto after a week! K
TDK 0 Posted December 6, 2003 don't worry that idea has gone out the window! i think i may as well just carry on the search for a manual with some luck i'll be looking at one tomorrow yep i meant road tax just checking some of them still got plenty left just wanted to get rough estimate i won't tell you the car i drive at moment

TDK 0 Posted December 7, 2003 lets just say its not nice lol its my mums though so can't complain! just been to go see another one!! oh boy sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooo nice, drove this one and the bloke was most helpful and i think hes a bit of an enthusiast so seemed pretty straight going compared to the other one i saw. just checking some things out but i'm hoping with any luck this could be it i said to him oh i've seen an automatic and he said "don't touch it automatic corrados are like lepers" man they are beauties! Simon 0 Posted January 8, 2004 Automatics aren't that bad, I got mine because i was more concerned about having FVWSH and a low mileage... I admit not as much fun as a manual, but not necessarily slower depends on what speed range you look at. My auto does just over 80mph in second, so my 50 to 80 speed i imagine is better than a manual.
