skinnyman9000 0 Posted August 12, 2008 My rado has been sat in the sun unwashed for the past 6 weeks, so now i have oxidation on the bumpers, roof, bonnet, spoiler, everywhere basically. Ive got some autoglym polish but it doesnt seem abrasive enough to get rid of it. Soooo, what do i need?
Jim 2 Posted August 13, 2008 If you have Super Resin Polish, that should definately take care of it! Failing that, try some ScratchX on it first.. i've never had good results with the stuff, but some people have. SRP normally takes out all the oxidisation on my paint. vwdeviant 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Good cleaning guide.... (lifted from Detailing section of Edition) Go with Easy available Halfords stuff to start with: Megs Gold class shampoo (PH Neutral, very foamy) Megs Clay Kit - will remove all the bonded particles on paint and restore it's smoothness Wash again to remove clay residue Megs Stage 1 paint cleaner - Do this a couple times A/Glymm Srp (as Jim says) - repeat untill you get the shine back. A/Glymm EGP (Gold label) seals in the shine from above and gives some UV protection Megs Gold class wax - Provides protection add UV protection too. Just remember, the final result's all about the prep work. This should take a day/couple days all in. all the above sounds a lot but once you are there, maintaining it's easy as washing once a week and polishing/waxing once a month. Claying should be done between 3-6 months and remember claying the car will remove all the wax/protection, so you go from ground zero again. Paint Cleansing every 2-4 months. Polish (SRP/EGP) 2wks-1mth wash/wax every week. Remember to also do the trims, nice black trims will set off shiney paint no end! (I use A-Glymm Trim Cleaner (looks like snot) but remeber to keep a seperate pad for this as it's mostly silicon!) Also tyres I use Armour-all tyre foam, just spray and leave... VAG Red does suffer fading but not as bad as some others (like Vauxhall!), but if you keep on top of it the results can be really good. I used to try to wax/polish my Mars Red1 Scirocco at least every two weeks till it got to the point where I was happy, then once a month... Or if you're feeling lazy, get Herisites over to machine polish the car! I think Halfords has a 3-for-2 on cleaning at the moment!
