Rick_ford55 0 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi folks, My friend down in leads has just been told by his mechanic that his VR is pretty much dished engine wise as the head has cracked :(.....I have just replaced the engine in my crappy astra so i know that this can be expensive!!! Thing is the car is pretty much in mint condition otherwise and he wants to try to make some of the money back that he spunked on it (£2800) I told him it would prolly be worth more if he broke it but he wants tro sell whole as he doesnt have the tools to break it....I was wondering what you guys thought would be a fair price for it??? I can post pics if people would like? Its just u can pick up a MK3 for a decent price nowadays........
Walesy 0 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi mate, cheers for using the classified section but as you're just looking for an idea of price i've put your thread in the general section. When you've got an idea of how much, feel free to put a proper advert into the For Sale section :) As for ideas on how much it's worth, i've no real idea but I can't imagine it would be much with a fecked engine, he'd obviously be better off sourcing a decent engine and having it fitted before selling but if he cant do that i'd say a MK3 shell in spot on condition with a nice interior would be worth around £1k tops? tandino 0 Posted August 28, 2008 A Mk3 VR6 with a borked engine is worth about 500 quid tops!. You can pick up nigh on minters for about 2 grand. Better to find a head and fit it...
Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 28, 2008 the problem is with breaking a mk3 is that most of the bits are readily availiable as there's so many out there.
Guest Posted August 28, 2008 agreed, better off getting a decent engine and keeping the thing going, you can buy a extremely nice Highline mk3 VR6 for around 3k tops, whereas an engine can be picked up for hundreds, why not go the extra yard and stick a 2.9 from a corrado in it? as long as the golfs an earlier car (obd1) it will be virtually a straight transplant
