biggrim 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Hey people. I've just discovered that I've managed to crack one of my 18" RS6 wheels on the passat. It's on the inside edge of the front wheel and I've no idea how I did it. The question is can it be repaired or am i looking at a new rim? I'll try to get a pic up tonight so you can have a look. Cheers, Grim
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 23, 2008 Is it a genuine RS6 wheel, or a copy? The genuine RS6 items had a reputation for being a chocolate wheel (i.e. weak!) The crack might be weldable but I'm fairly certain most wheel refurbers will say bin it.
biggrim 0 Posted September 23, 2008 TBH I'm not sure Mr Wire. I would have thought a cheap copy would have been more schitt than the OEM wheel though? I'm not sure I'd trust a weld matey. Might have to buy a cheap 2nd hand rim.
Adz The Rat 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Ive had a cracked rim repaired before and it looked a very good job, couldnt never tell it had been cracked. But I didnt feel all too well with it so used it as an excuse to buy some Compomotive MO's hehe
MagicIan 0 Posted September 26, 2008 Get it welded up, a friend if mine had a cracked wheel welded months ago and has had no problems with it. People say that a weld is stronger than the two bits it joins together? I don't weld though, so could be wrong....
