Kezbo 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Hi guys, Just putting the interior of my corrado back together after replacing the heater matrix. Managed it without taking the dash out thanks to the guide in the knowledge base. The only thing left to do is put back in the heater controlls. I have glued the little tab that cracked off but the problem I now have is that the fan switch does not appear to be making the correct contacts and therefore the fan will not run. Ive searched the forum high and low and all I can find is the common problems with the resistor and butting the turn knobs on wrong. I havent got either of these problems, the turn switch is just not making the correct contacts! I have taken it apart and there is a little metal L shape which twists with the knob and contacts different connetions as it is move - I have therefore tried to reshape this but cannot get it to work. Phone GPC and a new controller is £155 plus VAT so thats not an attractive proposition. Therefore can you guys through any light on what shape I should be aiming to bend to L shaped section to (a photo of the L shaped bracket would be ideal) or recommend a car which has a similar set up that I might get a replacement from in a scrappy. weetos 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Early or late dash? Info might help someone answer your question.

Kezbo 0 Posted December 3, 2008 An update: went to the scrap yard today and got the metal tap from a mk3 golf fan knob, fitted it to the corrado knob and it works perfectly!! Turns out although the fan speed knob on a mk3 golf is on the other side the electrical contacts are interchangeable with a late corrado.
Hussar 0 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm sure this response will be considered a bit belated, but I didn't want to start a new thread and others may search this in seeking aid. If you have for any reason removed the control knobs (later heater controls with rotating knobs), you need to be aware that the knobs are NOT all the same. There is an extra cutaway on the heater blower 'switch' that fits over the copper (contact) strip. It is possible to force the 'wrong' knob onto the heater blower, but the strip will be pushed away from the contact area thus losing contact or worse still breaking off. This may allow the blower to work on position 4 but not on the low speed positions. If you have this problem I suggest you remove all knobs and make sure the right one is selected for the blower. Stonejag 10 Posted January 2, 2012 When you remove the dials, is the clear plastic bit in the centre supposed to come away with the knob or stay in the control unit? When I took my fan speed dial off it came away in three pieces and I'm not quite sure what's supposed to go where. Actually I was down the scrappy yesterday (and sitting in a Mk3!) so I'm quite annoyed I didn't think to take its dials with me now... (on a related note, is the unit compatible with the Corrado one? If so why does everyone not use Golf ones instead?)
Hussar 0 Posted January 2, 2012 When you remove the dials, is the clear plastic bit in the centre supposed to come away with the knob or stay in the control unit? " I'm not quite sure what you mean. There are some related clear plastic parts that sit on the underside of the knob surround: That cover that you need to carefully prize off to expose the knobs and which bears the positions for each control. Then sitting under each knob is another plastic item which lift out - the one for the blower knob has a lamp in it, and each has a white plastic tip. That tip sits in the small aperture in the pointer of each knob. These little plastic units can only fit one way in the metal slot under each plastic knob cover. I fear this may be even more confusing but it's the best I can do - sorry.
