"Notchy" Clutch

Recommended Posts

OK My clutch pedal's just started to get "Notchy" as i depress it.. Have a feeling either the slave or master cylinders are on their way out. (Happened on a Saab 9000 I had and turned out both were dying :gag: )

Is this the case or could it be Pedal box?

If it is how easy/difficult are they to replace on a 9a?

Hmm couple years I guess...

Will have to try a fluid change and see how that goes...

Any tips for this? Will I need a "one man" e-z bleed thing?

Yeah it's due then...

Eeziblled makes it simple or if you need a full fluid change you might just want to get VW to do it for the sake of £35

check the pivot on the actual pedal too... on mine a load of sand had gotten into the pivot (yeah, I don't know how either!) and had made it quite notchy at the top of its travel...

Other than that, sounds like it's the master cylinder...

You'll probably find that if it's the cylinders going it gets worse when things heat up. Mine has been notchy every summer, while sat in traffic, for the last four years or so, but first thing in the morning it's just fine.

It gets a little better if you have the clutch slave bled too, but ultimately I'm sure you'll wind up replacing both cylinders.
