What oil for a 1.4 Mk4 Golf? 2000 reg?

My girlfriends car displayed its first ever problem today. The oil warning light came on.

 

What grade oil does it need. I searched in the handbook and it came up with lots of different grades I've never heard of?

 

Would a glug of my Synta Silver 10-40 do?

That will be fine, the 1.4's tend to use a bit too so nothing really to worry about!

any reasonable quality 10/40 semi synthetic, Fuchs from GSF is fine.
