Keebler 0 Posted December 23, 2003 what are the normal numbers for the compression test... i did a search on the boards and i kind of got the idea of about 160-190 type of idea... my buddy's '94 vr6 doesn't seem to be running like it should... it sure doesn't keep up with my car ('93 toyota mr2 turbo) which is supposed to be the same 0-60 times... it just feels like it doesn't have the power... he just got his compression checked last night... i think it was: 1 - 115 2 - 112 3 - 115 4 - 90 5 - 115 6 - 125 are these low?>? the car idles & runs fine... the car is just slow... his car does have higher kms on it (220)... but that shouldn't really make much of a difference if the engine has been taken care of... any ideas?>? any ideas?>? big_mac 0 Posted December 23, 2003 that really low pressure on number 4 to me rings alarm bells, im not a mechanic but have some knowledge and as far as i know number 4 is at the end of one of the banks of cylnders, in my experience vw's tend to blow gasgets on the end cylnders. is there any sign of milkiness in the oil? it could be the ppiston ring is away on an engine with such high kms but again i coulnt say for cetain. on my old vw's if i had low compression i would tighten the head bolts by mabey a quater of a turn and retest to see if that solves it. but dont take my word for it let some of the more knowledgable folk on here try and help before condeming the gasget. G-Lader 0 Posted December 23, 2003 i thought the MR2 Turbo's were quicker than the VR6 to start with!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 23, 2003 i thought the MR2 Turbo's were quicker than the VR6 to start with! Depends what stage it is, 1, 2, 3 or 4 but as a rough idea, here is a typical stage 2, pilfered from an enthusiast's site:- 280bhp @ 17psi boost 0-60 5 seconds 160mph 1/4 mile @ 13.774 sec So yes, it is WAY quicker than a standard VR6! Those compressions are prolly down to a knackered head. Rebuild the head and then re-test. If they're still low, the bores have ovalised. K
