G60 corrado... getting it running

Recommended Posts

Well thought I'd do a gallery to show the progress on the VW Corrado me and my brother got.

We won it on ebay as a non starter with " a hole in No 1 piston. Thankfully there is no damage to the bore or head" but a little bit of MOT and TAX.

Since we had a g60 engine lying about we bought it!

well on inspection of it all we've discovered it has had a few mods

its on a 68 mm pulley which has done 20,000 miles since last rebuild so its due! Should I go to G werks or Jabba?

Has a bigger exhast with a decat and a K & N filter

Has also had recent new disks and pads and a new clutch and been serviced recently so pretty pleased with condition!

Needs lowering, prob won't go for coilovers though, so the ride isn't too harsh

Still not all back together yet though!

Looking good. So nice to see one being put back together again. Go to GWerks or JMR for the charger. Love the Golf ornament in the flower bed :) Sure beats a gnome.

We got the Corrado back together gave it a test and it runs OK but the charger is letting some oil out so its going straight for a rebuild! Do JMR offer a 6 month warranty like G-werks do, and how much do they charge? Could not work it out on their website. The golf is still getting a G60 engine but its probably going to be turbocharged just to vary it up since we'll have a supercharged g60 in the Corrado anyway, first the old engine from the Corrado needs rebuilding to go in the golf though. Glad you like the ornament, wish my mum agreed to say she's pissed off with it being sat on her flower bed is an understatement! With the exception of the odd scratch and a rip in the drivers seat its in really good nick we are well pleased, shame we couldn't of had a little go in it before we sent the supercharger off to be rebuilt though!

Quick update, G-werks tell me the charger should be with me any day after having it about a week longer then they said they would! Then we should have a nice running G60 with a very short MOT...

Well after getting the charger in and cleaning all the pipes it was misfiring a bit so we got new spark plugs (w6dpo £££!!) checked leads timing etc and still no luck. Checked the compression in the engine and piston 1 has no pressure! Which means a rebuild is in order, very annoying!

Going to strip it this Sunday to discover the exact cause but wouldn't be surprised if the piston looks the same as the one in the engine we took out. On the bright side once this is all done we should hopefully have it running like new with most things in the engine new or rebuilt!

also if anyone knows a good spot to get a block bored and honed up north that would be nice
