Thatcham Cat 1 / 2 alarm or imobiliser.

Recommended Posts

Hey,

OK, i'm a newbie, so please go easy...

I'm in the process of buying my first Corrado, a dream of mine for several years.

Unfortunatly i'm 21, so the drea of a vr6 or 16v is out of the question with insurance.

I have found a lovely well looked after 2.0 8V, which has been loved and looked after well with a good history with it.

It has a factory fitted alarm/imobiler, however for my insurance it needs to be thatcham cat 1 or cat 2 does anbody know if it would be or is likely to be. It's a94 'm'reg.

Many thansk Steve

bear in mind that even if it was a Cat1 then, it may not be any more as they get delisted after a while. Maybe not every insurance company will worry about that but fussy ones might get you to replace it..

I always have found that its difficult to get a quote for a corrado without a cat1 alarm.......had a TOAD AI606 fitted to both......about £250ish........haggle that much off the seller and get one fitted :D

Oh and welcome to the madhouse

Really? When I used the standard comparison sites for my 1.8 16V I got a whole list of quotes despite me saying it had no alarm or imobiliser. That's all changed ready for the renewal though, so hoping for big discounts :) Oh and the fact I'll have been driving a year by then.

I guess thats the difference between using brokers and just standard comparison sites. Admiral seemed quite happy without.

HIC do expect it to have a CAT1. To be honest, i'd get one fitted anyway if money permits. I wouldnt want my pride and joy been taken by some scroat.

Oh it's all sorted ready for the renewal, I just had to have the car when I saw it (I wasn't a driver at the time) and when I passed 2 months later I jumped on the cheapest quote possible just to get behind the wheel. (£850 TPFT, with no driving experience I didn't think it was to bad).
