Off to DG Autotech next week!

Recommended Posts

Off for my first trip to DG next week! (Tuesday)

Following feedback about the mysterious high engine temps, going to get the factory oil cooler changed for a new one.. think the one on the car currently might be gunged up and not allowing coolant to circulate properly.

Looking forward to going!

Up in Kidderminster. Only ever went to Stealth because they are the only folks nearby I trust. Now that DG is open not much further away will go up and see them. Besides, DG is new and being run by mates.. I'd gladly send any business I can their way! Stealth are well established and already have lots of word of mouth advertising..

Not an entirely successful day for a number of reasons!

Graham set about my car earlier this morning whilst I went out for a play in Dave's VR Turbo - he's dialled up the boost now and I simply can't describe the sheer feeling of terror when you put your foot down. I swear that it feels faster than the Audi R8 I drove on my supercar day a few months ago. The R8 was quick but the VR turbo genuinely seems to give this sensation of your surroundings warping as it comes on boost.. seriously impressive stuff!

When we got back Graham had some bad news - firstly VW had sent along a totally random coolant pipe instead of the one they'd actually asked for, and the oil cooler actually seemed in pretty good condition and didn't seem to be gunked up at all :( Hose ordered with VW but could be a few days now so I was sent home driving 'the loaner' - Dave's other Corrado (1.8 16v) which is about as good a loan car as you could hope to get from a garage :)

Mid-way through the day we dashed back to Dave's house to pick up some topmounts for the loaner - when we got there I noticed a little cascade of steam pouring out under the passenger side headlight - politely asked Dave if that should be happening, and the concerned look and dash for the bonnet release lever made me realise it wasn't. The car had popped a hose luckily just on the drive of his house.. a quick bodge later we took a VERY steady drive back to the workshop :)

So I'm either back there tomorrow to pick up my car if the hose comes in or Saturday if it goes on order for a few days. But I don't think it'll have cured my mysterious temperature issues :( Damn :(

Bad luck chap, but at least you got to drive the VRT eh?

I'm sure Dave and Graham will get it sorted in no time once the parts are in. Hopefully they'll have some idea of what is causing your hot running problems.

Aye. Words just don't do that thing justice... it's an absolute weapon.

Definitely still coming to that mate. Will either be in DG's loan Corrado still, my normal daily driver, or my Corrado if it's been fixed up :)

Pity oil cooler hasn't sorted it for you, mine has had wierd temps since having the top end rebuilt. If you sort it let us know, and if I sort mine out (doubtfull with my mechanical skills) will let you know.

Yeah, I was seriously impressed with the power delivery, just savage from low revs. Its totally different delivery than my charger.

I don't think savage is the right word - it's terrifying yet so smooth. It builds and builds the power but it never really slaps you across the face, if you know what I mean :)

I meant the amount of power is savage, but as you say its very smooth in delivery. Lovely car, its a pity turbos don't suit my needs.
