renson 0 Posted August 17, 2009 Didn't know if i should put this here or in car care but here goes.. Saturday i picked my car up from the bodyshop, and would like to know how long before i can polish and wax the painted areas. General opinions on the net seems to be 4-6 weeks to allow it to cure, Is this correct? :confused4:
Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 17, 2009 i always thought if they used an oven you can do it straight away. don't alot of bodyshops, "mop" the car afterwards with an orbital polisher?
Walesy 0 Posted August 17, 2009 Ask the bodyshop is the best idea mate :)
renson 0 Posted August 17, 2009 I Think they do mop it after, but was worried that although it has been baked that any solvents still coming out would be sealed in by wax. I think that paint still cures for quite some time afterwards.
Emkayvr6 0 Posted August 19, 2009 yep a bodyshop will usually mop the paint but polish is just an abrasive, basically its like super fine sandpaper and is just used to get rid of fine blemishes and for the finish of the paint, whereas as wax is to seal and protect the paint so like u said paint can still be curing for a while afterwards, so best to leave for some time but not sure how much baking speeds up this process of curing but best betr would be to get in touch with the guys who did the work
