robtalbott 0 Posted September 14, 2009 just been working on my new corrado today and the little metal clip between the bonnet release handle and the cable snapped (see pic) can't open the bloody bonnet or anything. tried holding the cable sleeve and pulling on the cable with pliers but it's far too stiff any suggestions? VR6 0 Posted September 14, 2009 I'd normally just suggest using the search but you don't even need to do that! Further down this page: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=82998 Or have a look in the Knowledge Base about how to release the bonnet.
robtalbott 0 Posted September 14, 2009 is it not the case though that that thread is for snapped leads? my lead is fine its the small copper(?) plate that links the handle and the cable together that's snapped
VR6 0 Posted September 15, 2009 These threads tend to cover most bases rather than just a specific problem. Still, the advice remains, have a look through the search.... Advanced Search: +bonnet +cable Normally I'd suggest restricting to one forum but for this it would be worth looking in Interior, Exterior and also for the people that don't realise the bonnet isn't actually part of the engine, Engine forum. Return Topics rather than posts. 20p says that resolves your question :)
fla 9 Posted September 15, 2009 just in case you've not managed to have any luck the way to open it is this: using two pliers, hold the cable in one and with teh other pliers, close them so you can see that oval centre section. Put this against the cable sheath, dont HOLD the sheath with it, your objective is simply to provide a resistance to the next step. Now pull the cable and simultaneously push the sheath in the opposite direction ie you feel as though you are trying to pull the cable out of the sheath. Its important to push teh sheath as this pushes the driver's side bonnet release arm. Its an unnecessarily complex setup, but i guess Karmann had their reasons  Good luck, you'll sort it out, its really not too difficult, perhaps a little fiddly.
