Audi A4's and V6's.. what to look for

I know a few of you here have had experience with the A4 and Audi V6's...

 

So before I go look at one at the weekend I was hoping for some pointers what to look out for?

 

It's an A4 2.8 Avant... Not a quattro though :(

 

I have seen the "recall" (not admitted by Audi-uk) for the steering joints and A-Arms... but any other weak points?

I ran a Passat V6 Syncro (so identical drivetrain) for three years, taking the mileage from 90k to 150k. In all the time I ran it I experienced no issues at all, I did change the oil and filters at 6,000 mile intervals at most but engine appeared to be smoother at 150k than it was at 90k.

 

A decent history is all that I would specifically look for but I'm sure others will add to the list

Have you tried one for size? they're not the biggest when it comes to legroom :|

cambelt and water pump, one of the blokes at work had to stump up £500 to have these done and that was only a local garage.

 

i think most of them say 115k for change??

 

other than that the usual second hand car stuff as far as im aware.

Leaking Cam Covers, leaking sumps and failing secondary air pumps. Otherwise the engine is fairly OK.

 

What you need to be looking at is the history on the multi link suspension; If anythings been done over 40000 miles ago it'll need doing again soon no doubt.

Gonna try and get a mate with Vag-com along.. see if we can do a seaky scan...

 

How much of the engine etc does it cover on an A4?

 

Guessing most of it?

 

Pat am a complete noob to the Audi V6 where's the Air pump? What does it and how does a fail manifest itself?

 

Already read up on the suspension issues of these and Passats!
