radojunkie 0 Posted December 9, 2009 i know there are lots but cant find a soloution to fix this problem. the sunroof tilts up fine, but when i go to close it in the normal position the drivers side slots in nicely with a tight seal, however the rear passanger side of the sunroof stays 3mm higher than the rest of the sunroof (3mm worth of gap where i can see the interior). when i press the button to fully slide the sunroof back the same side stays high and hits the roof, so it wont even slide back. any ideas on how i can amend this problem are greatfully recieved as the weather is setting in one us yet again! one other thing is the front passenger footwell has the carpet getting sodden, maybe due to the sunroof....please help! C.P 0 Posted December 9, 2009 has the panel been pushed up? try adjusting it at the torx screws.
radojunkie 0 Posted December 10, 2009 cheers mate i think i pretty much sorted it. the panel your on about- i didnt know it came off. i literally pushed the inner lining panel up, then backwards unhooking it. this gives alot more visability to identify the problem and fix it. i found that one of the arms that makes it tilt and go back etc. was broken, the one attached to the cable. so i got a new one and will pop that on and feed the new cable through the motor. also didnt know that they should be greased heavily with white or lithium grease once every 3 months or so to keep them working. please note also that the head lining should be reattached unless you want a little shower while driving! i poked a thin metal rod down the drainage channels, which may or may not sort my damp carpet.... C.P 0 Posted December 10, 2009 good work man, where did u get the new part? and how much for? that's what went on my old one but i just replaced the whole unit.
radojunkie 0 Posted December 12, 2009 i found it at the bottom of a box of parts i had, result! think that part may be obsolete from vw now but am not sure of this. looks like it may be the scrap yard for any one else that has this problem!
radojunkie 0 Posted January 25, 2010 the problem still hasn't fixed itself. i have unhooked the headlining under the sunroof and unscrewed the four star bolts holding the metal exterior sunroof panel out so the panel can come out. my problem is that the alloy metal mechanism with the arm, which slides back and forth (raising or closing the sunroof) has snapped off in the gutter/rail, the part which has snapped is the only part which moves back and forth now (leaving the rest of the mechanism behind. does any one know how i can get one side of the metal railing off to get the mechanism out so i can replace it? does it have anything to do with the plastic box which sits on top of the railing above the sunroof button? please help as it sounds like its going to be ripped off over 80... radojunkie 0 Posted January 27, 2010 Any one? if i dont get this fixed pronto il end up rippin the sunroof off at high speeds or turning the car into a mobile swimming pool, how do you get the runners for the sunroof off, to replace the slidy mechanism which pushes the arm up and down??? please
C.P 0 Posted January 27, 2010 i'm not too sure about how to get that bit off chief. I think your best bet would be to take the whole sunroof out and have a closer look. When the headlining is off the sunroof is really easy to remove, just a load of gold coloured screws holding the black frame to the roof then the whole thing drops out. Simples, will make it much easier to inspect etc.
Topaz2008 0 Posted January 27, 2010 I had the same problem see below Broken Side Tilted.jpg[/attachment:e4cy0j9u] I could not see a way of fixing this in the car so I purchased another cassette and overhauled it, new cables new tilt mechanism everything. What happens over time is the bracket that the spring loaded rocker sits on wears/bends up slightly so that the rocker won’t drop and lock for tilt. Most people put bigger rubber stops on so that the rocker sits lower but if the 2 pieces jam then the cable bracket snaps. The Corrado sunroof is the same one as fitted to the MK1 Golf with the addition of motor. Unfortunately the motor does not feel the jam as we would if winding a handle so it carry’s on try to move the roof until something snaps I am afraid it’s headlining out to do this but in fairness it was not a bad job to do. Just remember that the motor has the switches in it that control the stopping positions for tilt/slide and shut so it’s important that the sunroof is in the same position as the motor thinks it’s in when it’s attached. The great thing is all the part are still available from VW. Give me a shout if you need part numbers etc :D
radojunkie 0 Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks guys, i was hoping i wouldnt have to take the whole headlining out but it looks like im going to have to :mad2: ah well. Ive got the piece i need i think, found it deep in a box of bits which is ideal! glad its only a few screws though and it'll give me chance to check the sunroof drain points so all is not lost. Il let you know how i get on but if anyone has just had enough of their sunroof, i found a thread describing how to but a passat monoroof in, heres the link, http://corrado-club.com/faq/detail_faq.CFM?FAQID=
radojunkie 0 Posted January 28, 2010 had a go at it today an its done my fookin head in. took the head liner off, undid the motor, got the rails out and fixed the problem. put it back in and relised i hadnt aligned everything properly i.e. motor with mechanism. took the motor out and span it all the way back, pushed the mechanism all the way back, put the motor back in and tried it going forward, it went forward but then stopped and wouldnt go any further forward. i then messed about with it a bit taking the motor out and in and realigning the mechanisms etc.. got the exterior painted panel on and sitting flush but it wont go up as far as it think it should nor go back as it seems to be goign up and down lopsided. so have closed and will never open it again! HaHa anyone got a procedure for where the mechanism should start and where the motor should start...~? and i may have a go at it again, unless i have put an axe through it before that.
