The_Dude 0 Posted December 29, 2009 Hi guys and gals, I was wondering if you could help. Having just acquired one of the above, I am struggling to work out what sub to put in there. I had a look to see if my 12" would fit and no it doesn't, not even close! I've measured the hole in the box and its 24cm/9 1/2 inches wide iirc. What size sub does this mean I can squeeze in? I don't really want to be chopping it up to get a larger sub in, partly cos of resale, mostly because of ham fists. Also, there was a load of padding too. Why? Does this go inbetween the box and the car body to stop rattles? I can't imagine it going inside the box as surely that would just absorb bass and make it more sludgy (like putting a blanket in a bass drum). Any help would be helpful. :D :salute:
Josh Waddi 0 Posted December 29, 2009 Not sure on the fitment thing but i know padding a sub box out with the insides of a pillow it will give a better bass-line. Trick ive played in all my ICE setups

Care to expand on your theory? :D
Josh Waddi 0 Posted December 29, 2009 Haha, thats what i thought when i first found this out. I bought a sub from a friend of a friend. When i was wiring it up i noticed it was filled with the inners of a pillow. I tested the sub both with the cotton in and out and there was quite a big difference. I still dont understand the logic but it works. I asked the seller about it and he was advised to do this for better sound. Thats all i can tell you im afraid.

JMC 0 Posted December 29, 2009 Yep the Audioscape boxes are defiantely for 10 inch subs. Heres a bit on wadding "with a sealed box, wadding does increase the effective box size, and in turn this increases the damping (lowered system q) which is generally a good thing with boxes at the smaller end of the recommended size - lower q makes it more punchy but slightly quieter but only a few db - dont pack in too much, just loosely fill about 2/3 of the box".
