cookem 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Hope someone can help me with this problem. Just fitted the locking mechanism and the door handle of the passat rear door, as suggested on other posts in this forum. With both parts fitted I can get in and out of my C normally. However, trouble is that with the door handle attached the locking nob thing will not go down. With the door handle removed the nob goes down perfectly. Seems obvious that there is something on the door handle that is obstructing the normal operation of the nob. As I was doing this in the dark I couldn't get a good view of what was happening. Hoping that other people that have fitted the passat parts may know what is going on. Would be grateful for any help. The part numbers I fitted were:- Part no Door handle: 357 839 206A £18.75 excl. VAT Part no Lock mechanism: 358 837 016A £27.83 excl. VAT Thanks, Matt
Supercharged 2 Posted January 21, 2004 You have the wrong part numbers for the mechs.... the midle number 839 needs to match.... the striker pin on the door handle is too long for the mechs you have, they are missing the catch! The mechs you have bought will be the same as the corrado ones.
cookem 0 Posted January 21, 2004 The mech is definitely different to my old C one. Your right about the pin on the door handle being longer, but it still operates the catch on the mech which in turn opens the door. Its just that something is snarling up the locking nob. Was looking at the drawing with the dealer that he got the part numbers from and they seemd like a matching set at the time. Am I not getting what your saying? Thanks. Supercharged 2 Posted January 21, 2004 They definetly won't work together, the dealer must have ordered the wrong part as the 2 would not be together on the same diagram in ETKA The handle you have ordered is... 357 839 206A So the corresponding lock will be 357 839 016A
Supercharged 2 Posted January 21, 2004 Here is the diag with the part numbers for the posible locks that are compatible with your handle (you cannot see the part number for this but it is correct - 357 839 206A ) Also shows the black cover you can get if your mechs aren't chromed, like mine :) Cap in satin black - 537 839 089 (090 for other side)

cookem 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Supercharged, you are a good fella. Thanks for the info. I will be straight back to the dealers. How did you chrome your mechs. Do you mean you have a cap over your mechs that is chromed, or you actually got the mech itself chromed? Not a chroming expert, but wouldn't you have to take the mech apart to get it chromed? Supercharged 2 Posted January 21, 2004 The outer parts of the mechs are chromed - I got mine at Inters but I think they had been chromed ie were not like that from VW.
