jpowell79 0 Posted February 10, 2010 guys does anyone have an idiots guide or some detailed pictures to open up the centre console? My centre console does not light up (heater dials and ciggie lighter) and also the heater dial doesn't twist to windscreen (heater itself is ok though) any help appreciated! easypops 8 Posted February 10, 2010 The search is where you'll find all the answers you are looking for........both subjects covered many many times :D Have a look here http://wiki.the-corrado.net/late_heater ... epair.html and here http://wiki.the-corrado.net/illuminated ... trols.html Both items are in the knowledge base And your direction control might be a simple fix.......there is a metal clip that goes between the direction and the heat dials, which has been known to slip and jam
jpowell79 0 Posted February 14, 2010 cheers, managed to get to the bits behind the heater dials to have a look. I can see that the higher metal wire with the loop at the end is not going over the plastic circular part. (red arrow in pic) However when I pushed it back over it, then turned the dial, it still wouldn't push the metal into the tube (green arrow in pic)....its like theres a blockage in the tube or something...doesn't matter how hard I try to push the wire into the tube, it won't go in :( See pic: http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af166/autobf/Image003.jpg Does this mean I have to take the whole dashboard off to get to it? Anyone fixed this? Is it an easy job??
easypops 8 Posted February 14, 2010 I have never followed the cable , so not sure where it goes to, but as far as i'm aware it is very similar at both ends........its just a bowden cable, basically a thin wire in a sleeve, very similar to a brake cable on a bike, so if its not sliding through then its probably an issue at the other end?........i dont think its that long either so probably connects somewhere central behind the dash..........dont quote me on that though.......i'm sure someone with better knowledge will come in with better answers :D
jpowell79 0 Posted February 15, 2010 yeah it looks like the other end of the cable is heading off somewhere behind the drivers speedo unit..... any ideas anyone? oh and just to make life harder, the cd player above (which I took out for a better view) won't slide back in now for love nor money, even know I'd swear blind there's nothing behind it stopping it! :cuckoo:
jpowell79 0 Posted February 16, 2010 anyone had a similar issue who can walk me through the fix? :confused4:
jpowell79 0 Posted February 16, 2010 screen vent fix - according to another thread, I need a defroster/bowden cable part number 536 819 835 (apparantly about £9) Just done a google search for this part, but can't seem to find it. Anyone know a good online website to order one?
jpowell79 0 Posted February 16, 2010 no luck with VW direct (they no longer have them) and German Swedish in Brixton don't have any. Found one from here off another thread: http://www.corrado-teile.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p2228_Control-Flap-Cable---New-Style-Interior---Corrado.html about £18 with the postage. Hopefully this will do the trick :)
jpowell79 0 Posted February 19, 2010 ordered a bulb (well 10 actually!) for the centre console (the bulb behind the middle heater dial). If anyone else needs one, they are R286 capless bulbs. :salute:
jpowell79 0 Posted March 7, 2010 done the bowden cable this morning! :D Thankfully I didn't have to take the whole dash out.... Just removed the drivers seat so I could lay on my back.... then onhooked one end of the cable (up near the clutch) and retainer clip, then took out the passenger shelf and the car stereo.....then from the passenger side, stuck a flat blade scredriver up to the retaining clip to pop it off, then fed the new cable through and put it back together. Loads of stratches on my hands, and the dial is still quite stiff when twisting to screen vent, but at least it works properly now :D
