C.P 0 Posted February 18, 2010 I have a 1.8 16v and i'm planning on putting 280mm brakes on it. The brakes i got are from a mk3 golf GTI 5 stud, so obviously i will need G60 discs. But are the carriers a straight fit too?
davidwort 0 Posted February 18, 2010 yep all the same as G60/corrado VR6 brakes, as long as you are sure you got early mk3 280's and not the later ATE 288's.

mimjed 0 Posted February 18, 2010 the 288's fit g60 discs though. wasnt any need to sell them on
davidwort 0 Posted February 18, 2010 the 288's fit g60 discs though. wasnt any need to sell them on eh? wouldn't the big pads of the ATE 288's hang over the sides of a 280 disc???
mimjed 0 Posted February 19, 2010 Haha yeah they do a tiny bit, have to keep an eye on them and grind it off. Big difference in stopping power though.
rolex 0 Posted February 27, 2010 so are all corrado calipers and carriers the same? can you fit 288 discs on a 16v kr? or is biggests 280s? do you need anything else other than discs?
mimjed 0 Posted February 28, 2010 288 discs are 5 stud dude. Seat did 304 4stud i think
rolex 0 Posted February 28, 2010 288 discs are 5 stud dude. Seat did 304 4stud i think So 288 would need redriling , can you use the 280s with g60/vr carriers and kr calipers?
mimjed 0 Posted February 28, 2010 16v calipers will work with the correct carriers yes. Redrill or change hubs, yes. Easier to use the 280 discs and the 288 carrier/calipers in my opinion.

Haha yeah they do a tiny bit, have to keep an eye on them and grind it off. is there alot more bite with the 288 pads? Big difference in stopping power though. Purple Tom 0 Posted February 28, 2010 Have a look at this thread Should tell you everything you need to know about the differences between the calipers.
mimjed 0 Posted February 28, 2010 kr carriers no good. need g60 ones. kr calipers are not the same as g60/vr6 ones butuse the the same shape pads. only real difference is the thickness of the pads you use, thinner by 3mm in kr ones. but yes you can get away with just discs and carriers if needs be.
