Rams 0 Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) Hi Ive ordered a few new bits for her, Roller bushes for both windows Top mounts and bearingsstromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfUpdate car works 009.jpg[/attachment:1m49emmd] Steering rack bearings Rubber ring for air box to chassis rail New C car mats All VAG parts Replaced the tie rods and ball joints last week, new arb and bushes, wheels powder coated, they're much better but not perfect especially the sides and spot areas where the wheels was so corroded. Polished and fitted manifold and new gasket, copper greased nuts and bolts where necessary, spray painted sump which was rusty, tightened oil exchanger nut but still weaping. Maybe needs a new rubber or something? So Replaced oil cooler seals front and back and its stopped the leak!! Ordered a new handsfree car kit from ebay, Parrot ck3100. Its coming together now, running well and happy to be fixing these usual suspects. Like everyone else on here really, want to get this car in great condition.... Getting the quotes for re spraying atm, the body work is probably one of the worst Ive seen on a corrado. Next couple of months me and a body specialist guy will start rubbing down and welding the new rear arch, rolling the arches with a proper snap on machine after. Then removing glass and rubbers, lights etc for a quality respray. Still deciding on look, smooth or standard.......???? More fleck in the paint or something?? Thats my update so far, RamsCorrado92.pdfUpdate car works 017.jpg[/attachment:1m49emmd]passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfUpdate car works 005.jpg[/attachment:1m49emmd]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfUpdate car works 018.jpg[/attachment:1m49emmd]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfUpdate car works 004.jpg[/attachment:1m49emmd] Edited March 19, 2014 by Rams
VR6 0 Posted March 12, 2010 Sounds good .... Why not start a Members Gallery thread and post some pictures/keep everything updated in there as you progress? Means everything stays in one place rather than 15 different threads in the General forum everytime you update something.
VR6 0 Posted March 13, 2010 Ok I'll move this to that forum then and you can always edit your original post to add in some photo's etc.
Rams 0 Posted March 14, 2010 Cheers What a difference felt by new top mounts and bearings, really happy. Changed V belt and cleaned pully from rust debris. Changed the oil cooler rubber rings/seals front and back..... Hopefully this will stop the oil leak? Occasionally, the car cuts out on start up, once in every 30 starts or so. Pluged the car in and its saying its a fault with the immobiliser, cleared the codes and will see what happens. Maybe the factory fitted immobiliser Or cobra immobiliser is playing up and may need sorted. Will the ecu need to be re codded/mapped? Next week, window bushes, new steering rack bearing for the hell of it, plus having steering wheel rake tightened up and new fuel filter and a 4 wheel track and camber check. Fitted newly powder coated BBS solitude wheels and had re balanced, look clean and tidy now. New BBS badges fitted, painted calipers black till I upgrade the brakes. Thinking Brembo's, 4 pots. They stopped me in my last car, EVO 6.
Rams 0 Posted March 15, 2010 Just some pics of work and the old ARB / link arms being cut out. Everything was solid under there and now going through the process of updating everything and re greasing / cleaning. The mechanic always cleans and copper greases things etc. He knows im a fussy buggar but did them all without having to be asked. Great chap, very reasonable and its either being fixed at the weekends on his work ramp, its just 2 younger guys and they love cars and bikes and they all take an interest. They are gear box and cluth specialists and said they would happily to mine when its needs sorting. Had a hole days work for £40, yes, £40! He did the oil filter change, cleaned everything, plugged the car in, checked the car over for a good couple of hours and said, £10! I had to give him more. His family have a breakers for vw and audi in Hungary and has been working on these cars since a young lad and his experience shows.
VAG-hag 0 Posted March 15, 2010 lights look bright what bulbs you use??
Rams 0 Posted March 15, 2010 The car had the healight wiring upgrade and running some phillips ultra bright bulbs I think. They are good. Think Halfords sell them for around 20 quid each or something?
VAG-hag 0 Posted March 15, 2010 nice one buddy, how are you enjoying the ARBs?
Rams 0 Posted March 15, 2010 They feel better, the old ones were just an advisory on link arm and ball joint, so replaced both sides and arb with new bushes, now with the new top mounts and bearings it just feels more secure and the steering feels much smoother and solid over bumps. Hows ur car coming along?
VAG-hag 0 Posted March 15, 2010 good to hear mate. the inlet looks spanking too :D mine has a few bits waiting to be fitted when I come home to the UK.... so is coming along nicely! Your mechanics sound like a very good find!! 8)
Rams 0 Posted March 21, 2010 Replaced the fuel filter today and the fuel coming out of the old one was black! God knows when that was last replaced. Replaced the plastic roller bushes on the driver side window, VW told me I had the last pair left in the UK. I believe some dealers may have stock and want spares for the passenger side. Window still loose, side movement and makes a clunk when closing, so need to see why that is. New collant G12 and flush next weekend and will fit the newer expansion bottle. For some reason, my power steering fluid bottle is on the piss, the bracket looks after market but is not straight, tucked in neatly to the washer bottle and therefore, the battery terminal is difficult to get to. Ive started getting quotes for all the body work so far and really looking forward to seeing a nice clean paint job. Thats the one big thing that lets my car down, but when its done, my storm will be looking ace and running like a dream. I have noticed that my sunroof is missing the air flap at the top, I assume it was removed to avoid urther issues with the sunroof. Thats it for now folks..... Rams 0 Posted June 6, 2010 removed the side bump strips and instantly the car just has a more modern look, managed to source all the bits for the body work and she will be going in soon for a full re spray. I am so looking forward to having the car look smart, will update pics for new panels and paint job when starting
Wild-Animal 0 Posted June 6, 2010 Looks like your not hanging about! You need to get some pictures up for us to see what shes like!
Rams 0 Posted June 17, 2010 Fixed the window rattle finally today, I was not going to finish until it was done today. The right hand slider rail had broken its weld, managed to re stick that back at the bottome, the top welds were fine, cleaned everything down and re greased. Replaced the passenger side upper door card strip that had split, so all neat and tidy. Gave the car a good wash and hoover and cleaned parts of the engine bay, washed the battery pad cover and re fitted. Ordered new oem caliper repair kit Ordered new front vw oem engine mount Ordered new Goodridge brake hose kit, ready for next week when the new discs and pads get fitted and all new fluids received new oem 288 mm discs with oem pagid pads. Received 288 ate brake calipers and carriers. Booked them in for bead blasting and undecided to power coat or paint?? Picked up oem brake and clutch fluid Picked up oem gearbox fluid Neated up parrott handsfree kit and mounted the screen near the heated seat switches Removed all loose items and crap that keeps building up in the door cards, so rattle free Cleaned the leather again Lubed the wiper joints Replaced drivers door glass to one thats not srcatched and re fitted the plastic slider part that didnt come with the new door glass Took pictures of bump strips ready to sell, they're in perfect condition still as removed with heat gun and they are still straight. Will have my bonnett up for sale soon, it has some rust on the lip edge at the front but can be repaired. All sound deading pads are in very good condition. Im replacing mine with a secondhand rust free bonnett. Had to chase my dog around as she kept stealing the masking tap etc! Checked oil, water, brake fluid, gearbox oil and powersteering fluid levels Bidding for some new coilovers!!! Need to get it lowered asap as its doing my head in Sorted through most of the service history and put each page in plastic wallets. I ran out of plastic wallets. The history is superb. Every receipt is from a VW garage. Decided not to fit my new indicators untill its re sprayed Booked the car into have the rocker cover removed to inspect the tensioner / pad etc next week Put some fuel in and took a curise around Bournemouth and my favourite fly by under a tunnel bridge, the noise is awesome. Just by staples for anyone local... near wellington Rd. Still need 2 front arches, have the bonnett, have the rear arch, and bonnett then a full re spray. Planning to buy the wing vent and handles..... yet to decide on handles. Dont have a decent exhaust yet though...... noticed my centre box sheid had poped its weld. Might have been when I went the Thorpe Park last month and cliped the exhaust on the stupid logs that divide the spaces. I have become Corrado mad, all I want to do is make this car excellent, i cant recall ever giving something so much attention and I still cant stand looking at it with the paint the way it is. Next week, when everything gets fitted, I'll sort some pictures out of new parts being fitted.

Rams 0 Posted June 27, 2010 Well, I have new brakes that work.... My old discs were really pitted, especially the back of the discs, all came off nicely. Removed standard rubber brake hoses from front and rear and replaced with a Goodridge set, the only gremlin was the rear calliper bleed nipple has siezed but we got round that when bleeding. Forgot to order the springs for the front callipers but luckily, my mechanic had a spare set which we could use. I'll order a new set on Monday and replace mine with new ones as need to return old. Wire brushed around the hub and wish bones bolts etc to remove loose debris, matt blacked srayed the hub and wishbones and disc covers, just to tidy things up at this stage. Copper greased parts with copper spray and fitted the new 288 upgrade callipers and discs and pads to front end. When driving with my old discs it felt like they gripped then let go and so on. Had to remove the front hard brake lines and rear, they were really rusty, we bought a new roll from Euro and set about replacing the front and rear and making new ends etc. Was nice to see some new shiney parts and we managed to get the pipes looking excactly like the old ones. Cleaned the brake fluid resovoir as in the bottom were lots of dark speckles and removed the inner piece to the resvoir for cleaning. New oem fluid began the began to bleed the system. I used a Gunsons Brake bleeding kit, we started at the near side rear and round. We did everything well but forgot to do the master cylinder. After we bled that the pedal was excellent and we just went round everything again to make sure the air was removed. Drove home and taking things easy to bed the new brakes in, but can already feel a smooth no judder braking and a good bite and secure feeling when on the brakes, so I can only imagine once they have settled in, that I'll be more impressed. This forum convinced me that the 288 was well worth it and as im running standard 15 inch rims, this is all I could do. Few pics of old and new, I painted the callipers and carriers myself but did a poor job so will upload the new finished pictures later. Next week, new front engine mount being fitted, new power steering fluid and the inspection of the chains etc. Bought 2 second hand good condition front wongs so the body parts list is complete. Fitting a passenger door with no rust, bonnett with no rust, rear quarter wing arch and then its going to be painted. Still a long way to go, I though my pockets had holes in them but realised the corrado is sucking up money like no tomorrow. The mechanic said to me, you love this car dont' you... I said, not yet, but I know I will!Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdfCorrado 288 upgrade 005.jpg[/attachment:17p4v0te]
Rams 0 Posted June 27, 2010 Ignore the caliper paint job, was planning to have them powder coated but couldnt get a slot quick enough and really needed to put the new brakes on. Need to just touch in a few places I missed when painting. Painted the disc edges and the where the centre to hold back the typical rust that builds up and they look neat. Rams 0 Posted June 27, 2010 The clutch is much better, the pedal comes back up nicely as it was beginning to get a bit slow on the return. Didnt have time to change the gear bix fluid but that will do that with power steering fluid change next week. Definately recommend changing the brake and clutch fluid and a good bleed through, if you havent for a while.
Wild-Animal 0 Posted June 27, 2010 Those brakes look sweet behind those wheels! :D
Rams 0 Posted July 1, 2010 Thanks, appreciate your comment. Wheels need a good wash and a final picture as Ive improved the painting on the calipers....
wy906 0 Posted July 1, 2010 Good work mate! I had mine upgraded to 288mm too; very good indeed.
Rams 0 Posted July 3, 2010 Going to fit the new front engine mount today, new gearbox fluid and power steering fluid. Going into see the spray painter on Monday and just see some of his work, if all is well, she will be painted soon. Picked up some sray glue from the carpet shop and re stuck the headlining back where it should be. I drive with the sunroof open most of the time and havent got a wind deflector, need to get one sorted.2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfBrake parts 004.jpg[/attachment:2e7qv2y0]Corrado 288 front brakes 002.jpg[/attachment:2e7qv2y0]
Rams 0 Posted July 7, 2010 Hi, My new rear arch is being welded next week, have sourced a very experienced welder, I went to see many spray shops and asked them how they would tackle the rear arch. A few opinions, but some said to cut the rusty part out and others said to do it properly, you need to cut the arch at the higher point and then spot weld both sides and seal properly so you know both sections are pretected to save the job from being done again. I then realised that I knew a guy that did some work for me before and has spent all of his life working on cars and welding things like g60 arches in reverse on his supra and so on. Have been quoted a good price and he will finish the job properly. He said its going to take some time as each spo weld will need time to cool down so theres no distortion? Not sure if thats spelt correctly? Do I get the rear wiper hole covered up or put the wiper back on in the winter? Do I debadge it? My last vr was debadged and it looked nice, but felt somethig was missing if you know what I mean?! Then we are going to take all the lights and glass and trims off, and ' DA' the car back to metal! I have just sourced a large workshop, just need to clear some bits out which I will start tom. Hes also going to cut the wing vent in, still need to decide on VW or Merc vent? Probably the VW one..... Need to figure out what im doing about the handles? Audi ones or just colour code the standard ones? A chap on here said I could take a look at his car as heS local, so will give him a call and arrange to see the car. Looing forward to getting started, I hear the front screen is a pig to take out and can break. Need to find a glazer to remove them if anyone knows someone local to Bournemouth? Soon to be proud of my Storm!
