ABV engine

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have just got a second hand vr6 engine for my corrado vr6

however there are a couple of differences to my current one and I just want to make sure I got what I paid for

I specifically asked for a Corrado abv 2861 and was given some verbal history but nothing on paper apart from the fact the engine is an abv

I have looked for the engine nbr but no luck

My old engine has a plastic cover ( where the engine nbr is ) and the one I have just bought is metal ( but the label not readable )

On the side of the engine where the alternator is, my old engine has 3 holes, the new none.

Is there anyway to check apart from the engine nbr that this is an 2861 abv not a variant? The head has the same part nbr as my old one.

Any help appreciated?

Thanks

The engine number should be stamped on the actual block, at the top just under the cylinder head on the side where the crank pulley is, it will most probably be difficult to read as cast iron rusts very well. There is usually the engine code on the sticker on the cam cover, i think thats what you mentioned in your post, abv engines come with both metal or plastic covers, plastic are the later ones.
