early style switch diy

Hi all, in the unsuccessful search of an a.c. switch to match the early interior, I decided to do it myself. I'ts not finished yet, but I'll post some pictures anyway. However, if I get a mega :epicfail: , I reserve the rights of deleting this thread :lol:

 

Base switch

the slice is getting painted now, with black paint. once the paint is dry, I'll remove some of it and leave A.C. "written" on it so it gets retro-illuminated. pics to follow :)

In the end, I left the glue gun slice idea on one side, and I used a slice of white plastic instead

The only issue i'd say is that if you're using glue gun glue the car gets hot enough inside to actually melt the glue, i know this because i used glue gun glue to hold the aftermarket tweeters in the original holders as the way they were originally stuck in failed (they were there before i got the car) and subsequently the car got hot enough for the glue to melt an they fell off...

 

Also if you're using standard bulbs to illuminate it (cant remember if the earlys used LEDS or not, i know the late does) then they too will probably get hot enough to melt the glue....

thanks. I'm finally using a piece of plastic instead of the glue slice.

 

however I was thinking about glueing it into the switch with the gun glue but once I have read your post, I think I'll use "super glue". what else could I use instead?

 

early switches use bulbs but I'll drop a led in :)

hey, thanks. I have epoxy glue. would it be useful?

 

I think I'll better go to a scrap yard and get some a.c. switches from any car, then cut the section that has de picture and glue it to my switch. or print an a.c. picture on a plastic sheet or something like this...
