quote from vw for paint

Recommended Posts

i went down to ask for a quote earlier today to spray bonnet/wings and two small patches on the roof.

the bodyshop chap did say "the prices we charge are extortionate" not the best sales technique in my book, but what do i know.

just recieved the email £1750

they would require the car for 5 days and no courtesy car included. wtf?

i know its vw, but im failry sure i could get a pretty damn good respray of the whole car for that sort of price.

anywhere midlands based people can reccomend?

he said he would gove me 15% discount on that. ta very much.

i will do some reading up on them, thank you.

been given the idea of a college in nuneaton, the teacher is supposed to be a dab hand and does the work (himself) for a good price.

Bloody hell how much!!!

My mate had his mk2 golf resprayed, full respray, for £900. It was an excellent job aswell and looked as good as new, couldnt fault it!

When mine was at the dealers, they pranged the back end (new rear light, dent pulled out, touched in and resprayed badge for free - ta!) I asked em for a quote to sort out the rust, dings etc and they came back at extorto-rates. they say it's cause they do things to *insurance standards*. no wonder we're all getting screwed by the insurers!!

Greg Howells at Southam Bodies, near Stealth Racing.. very highly regarded amongst the VW community. He's who I'm planning to go and see for some paintwork on mine when I've put the pennies away :)

This Is why I've bought a compressor, how hard can painting be

I had a quote for 2 grand for the complete car and all dings etc sorted.

All I need to do now is decide whether or not to risk myself and the local area with 2 pack paint :pale:

exactly what I'm looking into now, what guns etc..

I have a big compressor but not enough to run an air fed mask and HVLP gun at the same time, might have to invest in a smaller comp to run the mask, both are air hungry and not enough air means crap spraying.

I'm not going for a mega bucks sata or devilbiss gun, something like you mention above, but a 1.4mm tip for colour coat and possibly a 2mm for primer.

I've seen that gun with a 1.4mm tip for 35 quid new on e-bay and I'm sure as a beginner it's me that will be the limiting factor in quality of finish, but then if I do spray 2 pack it can be flatted a polished well.

a lot to think about, but seems very do-able with a bit of patience.

hahahah insurance standards!!! thats a joke!!! insurance repairs are the most rushed repairs you can get, they want them in and out as quick as possible and pay shit for them!!!

try a local bodyshop where youv heard good reports, that was a crazy price for what was needing done!!
