DarkVR6 0 Posted April 13, 2010 hi i had a small leak on the sump and decided that i would replace the sump gasket. once the sump was removed, i inspected the oil pump and cleaned it with a cloth, i noticed some plastic bits falling from inside the pump pick up hole, it has mesh lining behind it. i am about to put it back together and was wondering if its worth replacing the pump? or shall i clean the plastic bits away and re use it? obviously i dont want to put it back if its going to damage the engine. cheers for any info. corrado vr6 93 kreg
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 13, 2010 What colour are the plastic bits? Red = Bits of snapped dipstick mount fell down the tube. Brown = Bits of upper chain tensioner have fallen into the sump. You will need to schedule in chain replacement pronto. Any other colour = Pump is fine to reuse, they are very robust on the VR6.
DarkVR6 0 Posted April 13, 2010 the bits are black in colour and i only discovered them when i put my finger in the pump hole to clean it out with a cloth and the plactic bits dropped out, some are still in there, looks like the heat may have made this part brittle and it only took a little pressure to shatter it.
