hello to all

please dont get on me too badly for language, i am from america and notice you all use diff. words than we do. with that said, i just purchased a 91 g60. its a really nice looking car and i fell in love with them a couple years ago but they are really rare to find one here. anyways, i have a couple problems with it. one - speedo and tach seem to jump quite often, almost as if it were a power surge/lack of. also when i get to about 3500 rpm's in high gear it only says i am going about 65-70 miles per hour, which i know is not accurate. its almost as though it gets stuck and wont go above 65-70 miles an hour(the speedo). another problem is that the seatbelts dont seem to work(sliding track) i checked all the small fuses and they are all good. anybody know anything i can try or point me in a direction that can help? thanks alot you guys

Welcome to the forum... 8)

Has your speedo set (the complete cluster of rev counter, fuel, temp and speedo) got 1 LCD and mechanical mile counters, or 2 LCDs? This makes a lot of difference in what the fault could be. 8)

We don't have the auto-seatbelts in the UK/Europe, they were only fitted to the trans-atlantic bound cars... There are a few here from your side of the Atlantic who may be able to shed some light on this problem, and there are a couple of SLC owners who may know as well... I guess you're gonna have a bit of a wait for the solution to that one though... :? One thing you may want to check is for a blown fuse ABOVE the fusebox... There are a couple of mounting points that VW used for accessories on the top of the fuse box and one of these may well be a fuse for the auto-belts... It's worth a check anyway. 8)

Good luck!

Dude, you need to get yourself the Bentley manual. CD or paperback. It tells you where all this kind of stuff is. It is written for the American market so will definately help you.

Like Henny says, there are loads of additional fuses above the fuse box which may have blown. We would struggle to help you much more, as we have never seen those mad seatbelts over here.

Cheers

Gavin

thanks for all the quick replies. The guage cluster has 2 lcds. one is in the speedo(mileage & trip) and the other one for oil temp ect... . i will take a look at those fuses as well. the previous owner had a decent stereo and alarm put in so all the wires and stuff around the fuses are pretty jumbled. i know there is the one row of regular sized fuses, those i can check and determine if they need replacing. i can see the fuses above that row, they are all very large. when i bought the car, i found a large fuse sitting in the coin purse thing. i looked under and there was one spot where there wasnt a fuse. i put that fuse in since it fit. didnt do anything so i left it in. i have seen those yellow shop books, those cost about 80$ dollars though. i agree, i would like one, but until then, i have you guys to ask

It's also possible to pick up CD versions of the manual for a fraction of the cost (maybe $20?), might be rare as rocking horse doodoo, but if you keep an eye on ebay, I'm sure one'll turn up sooner or later (I've just checked and there's none currently availble :()

As for the fuse that was in the car when you got it, perhaps it was taken out because it didn't work...? Do you remember which one it was and can you source a replacement?

DtM.
