joeyboswell 0 Posted July 11, 2010 Southern fairy my arse! I was hoping someone would know a good garage by London but suppose it will have to be stealth...at least it will get taken care of from what I've read on here.
Abdul 0 Posted July 13, 2010 I always use Torque Exhausts in Enfield (north london). Dont let the name put u off, they specialise in exhausts and engine rebuilds but have a full mot centre and bodyshop too! The guys there really do take awesome care of your car regardless of what it is and ive never seen them rip anyone off with duff work etc. Put it to you like this, ive seen them rebuild 2 aston db9 engines and a couple of weeks ago when i popped round they were doing an exhaust and a few other bits for a ferrari 550/575. Oh yes... they tend to have a wide variety of cars go there, be it vag, ricers or top end 100k+ motors... they also built a mk3 VRT for a customer not too long ago. Basically, i wouldnt go anywhere else but they're not exactly cheap either. Pm me for details if u like.
joeyboswell 0 Posted July 19, 2010 Nice one Abdul. Will keep it in mind for when I've got some dough! Managed to through more money down the drain today by reversing into a bastard of a foot high curb. Lucky I'm running standard suspension so came off lightly with a nasty scratch\gauge to the bottom of the bumper. Gonna try to sort I myself until I get other stuff sprayed. Suppose I should be happy that I haven't incurred any other rado style costs!
joeyboswell 0 Posted August 28, 2010 back in liverpool for the weekend and noticed my MOT expires on the 12th. :censored: got loads of things I was planning on doing but now this will just get in the way and mean I probably spend on stuff I don't want. good job i've got a mate who owns an MOT place but that means I'm driving back up in 2 weeks. anyway...got myself some 288s off ebay for much cheapness. Am i right in thinking that I just need the following now: 3) Calliper slider bolts and sleeves x 4 4) Carrier mounting bolts x 4 5) 2 x front ABS rotors (where fitted) 6) Front flexi brake hoses - either Goodridge, VAG or DG Autotech x 2 7) Front 288mm discs x 2 8) Calliper rebuild kit - if buying used brakes Caliper Rebuild Kit (For Golf VR6 1997/98) -VW Part no: 3A0698471 - Set of seals = £12.51 inc vat, per side. This includes the Piston Seals & Piston Dust Covers 9) Fron 288 mmm Brake pads Hopefully I will get them cleaned up a bit (not much spare time) and painted and get them fitted probably after I've failed on pads and bought new! Do these look like they are in OK condition to yous?
joeyboswell 0 Posted September 3, 2010 Bump strip on drivers door came off. Haven't got around to stripping the old tape off and re-applying the strip and the inevitable happened yesterday...some absolute turd has put a ding in my door. First ding on the car and I'm less than pleased. :censored: :censored: :censored:
joeyboswell 0 Posted September 11, 2010 Car sailed through an MOT today. Chuffed. Said emissions were like a new car which I ws surprised by. No advisories but he told me that the brake lines will need sorting soonish and i could give the underneath some TLC so gonna get the subframes sorted and general clean-up / waxoyl when I get a chance. Will have to fish through posts here for some advice on it. Nice one for the garage tip Abdul but I was able to come back to Liverpool to get the MOT but might get Torque to do a few little jobs. Will give you a shout when I do mate.

joeyboswell 0 Posted December 1, 2010 Picked car up from Stealth last Saturday after it had new chains / tensioners and a couple of other bits including a new fan / heater panel in dash, HT leads etc. It is like a new car now. Didn't realise how poorly / noisy the engine was before. I was badly hungover when picking the car up so didn't get the chance to quiz Vince and the lads and talk about getting some more work done but I'm sure I will be going back there. Top garage. joeyboswell 0 Posted April 29, 2011 Ages since I've posted on this thread. After a winter of uneventful driving and corrado ownership...finally got around to giving it a pamper today. Full wash, polish and wax and even new magic trees! Look like a rastaman with a red, yellow and green tree hanging from the mirror! Having issues with a battery drain but nobody can find it so I have to leave the battery disconnected if I leave it for over a week. Hopefully replacing the ISV and ignition switch next week and clearing out all the pipes, throttle body etc to solve minor cutting out issues. Also need to sort out a full brake overhaul too. joeyboswell 0 Posted October 18, 2011 Haven't posted here for ages! All is good in the world of my Ice Violet! After a few issues with the ignition switch (which I have bought but haven't fitted) and battery it is all good now. I invested in a CTEK battery charger for when I don't use it for a week or so and since then I haven't had an issue. Can't recommend them things enough for charging and as importantly, reconditioning them. Had another MOT which I got through no problem but got some work done anyway. I got two new wishbones and had the brakes unseized a bit. I'm holding off an any other work until I get the 288 and MK4 brake upgrade which I never seem to get around to. When I get these done I will fit new wheel bearings all round, splash guards and CV gaiters were needed. Car is not used that much these days but still gets me from London to Liverpool and back once a month without any issues. I'm considering getting a new windscreen and sorting little bits of rust around the windscreen but I think I can get the winter out of the way first. Car's still looking good...that good I came back to it to find the ultimate chuftie under the wiper: IMG_0619 by jonty oconnor, on Flickr

joeyboswell 0 Posted March 6, 2012 Just gonna leave this here to motivate me to sort the brakes out http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?49737-288-Front-Brakes-and-MkIV-Rears-Part-Number-Thread&highlight=288+part+numbers
joeyboswell 0 Posted March 14, 2012 Just wandering if anybody can help with a poorly VR? Last weekend when driving to pick up some wheels the car lost power and started kangarooing and trying to stall. Smoke was pouring out of the exhaust too. I got a tow home from the AA and my mechanic has been out since. I've only spoke to him over the phone about it so I need to find out more but basically he reckons I need new plugs (which are way overdue and I've ordered some new NGKs) and a coilpack. He said that compression is fine but when he removed plugs and turned it over he said that petrol was spraying out of the empty plug hole. Not sure if it is all plugs or just 1/2 but he reckons that because the coilpack has been playing up, plugs haven't been sparking and petrol has built up. I didn't notice it misfiring but it did have an issue of cutting out that would come and go but this seemed to have stopped lately. Has anyone had similar or got any ideas if anything else could be causing it. Maybe a dodgy injector, MAF sensor or anything else? I'm just glad it doesn't look like the head gasket has gone and hopefully just a little blip. ---------- Post added at 3:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:32 PM ---------- Also...can anyone recommend what coil pack to get and where from please? joeyboswell 0 Posted March 19, 2012 Thinking of taking advantage of the opie oils discount on ferodo brakes. Are these the right discs for the front 288 upgrade?: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/showproduc...nt-axle-vented Anyone recommend ferodo discs or pads? joeyboswell 0 Posted May 25, 2012 Got new HT leads, new coil pack and plugs. Didn't stop the smoking / misfiring...finally succumbed to it being the head gasket. The machine shop went awol for a bit but my mechanic has got the head back now and it looks like they've done a lovely job of skimming it. Looking forward to getting the old beast back next week now. photo by jonty oconnor, on Flickr
Abdul 0 Posted May 25, 2012 Nice work mate. Saw the car parked at Nando's. Need to drop it a bit mate lol.
joeyboswell 0 Posted May 27, 2012 haha. it's all still standard mate besides the exhaust. I'm in 2 minds whether to get something a bit newer soon anyway but if i decide to keep it I might be tempted by a little drop.
joeyboswell 0 Posted June 23, 2012 Considering selling the rado. I'm really not using it enough...maybe once a week. Problem is that I would still need a car and possibly a smaller engined car to insure my girlfriend on it too. Seems like I am just spending money on something that I don't use enough...so basically not getting my money's worth. I can't see myself driving anything else though! mmmm....decisions. joeyboswell 0 Posted August 14, 2012 Loving the brake upgrades. The 288s and mk4 rears really are miles better than standard. Car's feeling brilliant now that the head gasket is sorted. Just been out to give it a run after not using it for a fortnight since a 400 mile round trip to Liverpool. Still think I'm gonna have to sell up to get something more sensible that my girlfriend (new driver) can handle and get insured on. Weighed up the option of getting a second car but I don't use the corrado much so it doesn't make sense. I'll put an advert on here if I finally stop arguing with myself. Really are great cars and can't imagine driving something sensible!
