jpowell79 0 Posted April 28, 2010 Hopefully that got peoples attention! ok it's not quite as "dramatic" as I made it out to be. But I was playing around with my ABS light in the dash, as since I've had the car, the light has never ever come on. Anyhow I took the light switch out, and pulled out the bulb and replaced with another....my soldering skills are a bit rubbish so don't think the wires on the bulb were soldered in properly... so what I did was push the bulb down with my finger to make sure the contacts were touching, then turned on the ignition and held my foot down on the brake pedal..... Next thing I know there is smoke coming out of the ABS switch in the dash!!!! as soon as I took my foot off the brake pedal, the smoking stopped, so looked to investigate.... I took the abs switch apart again, and looked at the circuitboard inside the switch where I had soldered the new bulb. Probably not a good idea, but I decided to repeat the experiement......did same thing, ad lo and behold, one of the resitors or diodes on the circuitboard started smoking. .....but I'm actually starting to wonder if I put the circuit board back into the switch upside down?? I think there's 5 or 6 prongs on the circuitboard that lineup with the ABS switch housing......but it actually fits in upside down as well. Can anyone confirm the orientation of which way the circuitboard should go into the switch housing, and also tell me if they think this is the reason why the board is smoking when I hold my foot on the brake pedal? Really want to get this ABS thing sorted :?
