Andy-H 0 Posted May 23, 2010 Right folks, Before I waste loads of money on the wrong parts like I've done in the past :cuckoo: , I thought I'd ask you guys to see if you could help. My wipers have a mind of their own, they will start working randomly even though the stalk has not been touched, including the back one :( Sometimes they come on like the intermittent speed, sometimes like the fastest speed and sometimes their own little merry dance  Do I need to replace the wiper stalk or is there a relay I can replace?? Many thanks in advance, Andy
dragon green 5 Posted May 23, 2010 Mine used to do this ! I replaced the wiper stalk, relay, still the same ! Took it to an auto-electrician,it was a wire in the fuse box ! Not as daunting as it sounds, There was a wire coming out of the fusebox, about an 1" long,it was "earthing" out on the adjacent wires, that happened to be the wiper wires. All he did was cut the offending wire off,and its been good as gold ever since :D This was about 18 months ago ! My trouble started just after my headlight switch nearly caught fire ! So put the fuse in the headlight loom viewtopic.php?f=19&t=92789

Andy-H 0 Posted May 23, 2010 Yep, exactly like mine................as soon as I can get them to stop, I go over a bump and they start again :brickwall: :brickwall: Was the wire visible when you took the cover off or do I have to poke around a bit ?? dragon green 5 Posted May 23, 2010 I took it to an auto electrician, with a spare fusebox, thinking that the trouble was in there, He unclipped the fusebox, and tilted it down, saw this damaged wire, and just clipped it off ! SAved me a fortune :D I wasnt there when he done it,i can only pass on what he told me,sorry
Andy-H 0 Posted May 23, 2010 No worries Mate, Hope I can find it out, at least save me the mither of buying loads of things for it and getting nowhere :cuckoo: I'll report back when I've been out to it and let you know (just another quick brew first  ) Cheers, Andy. Andy-H 0 Posted May 23, 2010 Well, I had a butchers at the wiring. Fuse box out, nothing wrong there, cleaned wiper stalk contacts and checked the block connector to see if that was dodgy. Put it back together and "hey presto!" they didn't move when I started the car..........then I let the handbrake off and the bl00dy things started going hell for leather again :mad2: Turns out the handbrake switch is connected to the wiper motor loom so something in there isn't quite right but I'll have a look at that when it's cooled down outside a little, I've taken the handbrake switch off it's mounting so the wipers are behaving now but I have the brake warning light claring at me now
dragon green 5 Posted May 23, 2010 Keep me posted, my brake warning light kept flashing at me (i thought it was a seperate problem) I bought a new sender top for the m/c,cleaned up the handbrake switch, chased wires as much as i could, never did find the problem ! Took the ruddy bulb out in the end lol :cuckoo:
Andy-H 0 Posted May 23, 2010 That's my plan mate if I don't locate the fault  Mine has been flashing for a while now and I just thought it was a faulty switch so I think this fault in the loom is the root cause. I think it's the place where the wiper motor wires join into the loom next to the bulk head.
