annoying little vibration...

Recommended Posts

over the past few days my C's developed a really annoying rattly vibration coming from the rear of the car. At first i thoought one of my 6x9 speaker grills had come loose (they're thin metal) which should give you an idea of the sort of sound its making, quite a light metalic rattle, and as if something is 'just' making contact with something else. I've looked at the exhaust but cant see anything obvious, and it doesnt do it when i rev the engine while stationary, just under acceleration from low revs in most gears. any ideas?

there's a thin aluminium heat shield on the bodywork just above the exhaust, this has a habit of coming loose due to the metal clips rusting off and will just touch the exhaust when the engine's running causing the annoying rattle you describe...

The clips are cheap to buy from VAG (a few pence IIRC!) and it needs no tools to fit 'em (just push 'em on by hand!) I've had to do this on both of the Corrados I've had...

Hope this helps... 8)

yup.... 8) Although there's shielding along the whole length of the exhaust that can do exactly the same...

Cool - I have similar noises (and many more of them since a trip to the Isle of Wight!! ). This sounds like the answer.
