VR6 engine probs

Recommended Posts

Alright chaps,

My mates VR6 is playing up at the moment. It keeps spluttering and holds back when you put your foot down. He says he heard a bang from the engine bay yesterday when driving in the rain. Since then the car starts but only runs for about 30 secs then splutters until it dies.

Has anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing this and what the bang could have been (maybe a fuse/relay in the engine bay??)

Cheers in advance

Tom :(

Try spraying water on the leads and coil pack and see if you can see any sparks jumping anywehre. if you can, wherever the sparks are there's a break in the insulation or a crack in the coil pack.

Well they only made them without them for year, so it's likely.

otherwise I bet the dizzy cap and rotor arm are worn out. they usually are!

Cheers chaps,

I had a look at the car last night. I'm lost as to where the coil pack is. Is it the block that the dizzy cap is mounted on??

Also, before the car dies the engine starts hunting. A friend at work suggested incorrect air/fuel mixture. Does anybody know where this is adjusted and what to set it to?

The car is really runing like sh#te, there is a huge power loss through the gears.

cheers

Tom
