VWVW 1 Posted May 29, 2010 Hi All The abs light has been staying on constantly so have had the VR6 plugged into VAGCOM....The VAGCOM reading is as follows 00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47) 35-00 00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47) 16-00 - Signal Outside specifuication 00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47) 04-00 Mechanical Malfunction. From the above its clealrly pointing the fault to a left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor...Is this an easy enough job to do for a novice...and where on the wheel is this sensor located...Where is the best place to get this part apart from the obvious vw dealers thanks in advance
Critical_Mass 10 Posted May 29, 2010 Yeah easypeasy to do mate. Get the part from the dealer! Its simple to do. Take the wheel off and you should see the sensor in the inside of the hub. Theres a wire going to it so not hard to see. Its just help in by a small allen head screw. Once the screw is out, the sensor can still be a bugger to get out due to rust. Try prise it out by getting a flat head screw driver between the hub and the sensor. Once out a bit of emery paper to clean out the hole the sensor sits in. Then just place the sensor back in (may need a little persuassion) Then replace screw and plug back in.
VWVW 1 Posted May 30, 2010 Thanks for the info....I've just had a look on ebay for a genuine left abs speed sensor and found see link below http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GENUINE-FRONT- ... 19bc659d1b Can anyone confirm that this is the right part...seems pretty cheap for the genuine article cheers
RW1 0 Posted May 30, 2010 The part numbers listed as correct 1J0 927 803 & 804 They do look cheap. Have seen VW parts sold by 3rd parties with VW part numbers on but not the logo?? You takes your risk, its Ebay! .

nocrap 0 Posted May 31, 2010 http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_brakes.php not genuine but should be reasonable quality
VWVW 1 Posted June 12, 2010 Mission failed !!! :( Attempted to get the old speed sensor off today...I Cant seem to get the allen key bolt off at all holding the old sensor in place as its corroded into a diffent shape for the allen key tool to get any grip on it. Probably gonna be a garage job now to do it from the underside of the car.

nlau1 0 Posted August 30, 2010 I have the same problem, diagnosed by a VW indie. Question I forgot to ask is, if I change the sensor do I need to take it back to the garage for them to reset the code via VAGCOM?
RW1 0 Posted August 30, 2010 I have the same problem, diagnosed by a VW indie. Question I forgot to ask is, if I change the sensor do I need to take it back to the garage for them to reset the code via VAGCOM? The light should clear but the fault code will remain in the memory. All you need to do is remember that it is there and it's an old code next time you have a diagnosis done. Clear it off when you next get chance to do so. .
