Wheel sizes ... 8.5 too wide for the front?

I've been looking at new rims and I'm unsure of sizes.

 

I want 8-9's on the rear, which means pulling the arches ... But what size is best for the front. I recall reading that if you go too wide on the front, it affects the steering badly ... Is his true?

 

I've seen some style 5's that are all 8.5, just worried about killing the handling.

I think Shaun had 8.5J BBS CHs on his at the front. Seemed to work OK for him and he is a bodywork perfectionist, so any rolling / pulling will have been minimal, if at all. I do remember his neg camber had to be around 2 degrees though.

i have 9s on the front of mine and they were a bitch to get to fit and sit flush, with regards to the handling its been fine, no diffrent to when i had TT comps on
