Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have a couple of spark plug sockets in the garage but neither fit in the recess to remove the plugs from my valver, can anyone recommend a socket that will fit?

I got a slim one from Halfords, 1/2 in drive as well. Take one of your "Too big" ones along for comparison.

halfords do one that fits with the bendy arm , make sure you get the one that has the spring clip in the top ,to get hold of plug . nothin worse than thinkin it must be undone by now having a look and the plug is lyin in the hole at an angle thats a pain to get it out :mad2:

Yeah - Halfords do a nice deep socket with a rubber grip inside for hanging onto the plug once you've undone it, for not too much money which will do this nicely. Whatever you do, do NOT buy their spark plug removal "tool" - spend the money on the socket. I tried to remove my plugs with the "tool" and it just bent and was rendered useless when I got to around the third plug!!

if you want to be really refined you could get hold of one from a better manufacturer than halfords - some of these come with magnets in them to retain the plugs rather than the rubber.

only reason i say this is because (in my experience) the rubber "retainer" has a nasty habit of coming out and staying on the tops of the plugs when you put them back in, making them a bit of fiddle to put in. you can get around this by superglueing the rubber into the socket, but if you can buy one with a magnet and not rubber from the off then i would do that as they are much nicer :)
