OllieVR6 0 Posted August 24, 2010 I am about to replace my Megs G220 which died (piece of shit). So this is a good opportunity to also try some other pads and polish as you get some good deals if you buy at the same time. You read a lot about 'hard paint' and for a long time I called BS (paint is paint rite?!), but having machined a CTR and a Corrado I now know what they mean!! Bloody Corrado is like polishing concrete! I have been using Menzerna IP 3.02 polish with ok results, but I have now got a bottle of Power Gloss as well which I haven't tried yet. I have been using the Sonus spot pads up to this point. With the Menz IP and the sonus cutting pad it takes 3 passes to get a 'better than it was' finish, but I want more than that!! I'm hoping the power gloss will make a difference, but I also want to try some more pads too. Seeing as I will probably need 3 different grades of cutting plus 2 different sizes for each pad, you quickly start spending loads of money so I would like to know what you are using and if poss, see the results. I've seen some good results with the Menz pads, but the 3m, hex logic and lake country pads all look as well!
KADVR6 0 Posted August 24, 2010 100% the menz pads and the menz polish. It was the only combination that has done both the corrado and the bmw with the best results. Awesome stuff.
big ben 10 Posted August 24, 2010 chemical guys hex logic pads are twice as good as any other i have used, including menz... menz polish is awesome though, so to is 3m polishes
davidwort 0 Posted August 24, 2010 ... (paint is paint rite?!), but having machined a CTR and a Corrado I now know what they mean!! Bloody Corrado is like polishing concrete!... Most Corrados seem to have a 2 pack lacquer on top of the colour, this is indeed very hard wearing compared to the finish on a lot of older Japanese cars (apparently) also the reason why resprayed cars don't seem to have the resistance to stone chips as Acrylic lacquer seems to be used instead on a colour basecoat. Do you guys use a high speed rotary polisher then, or an orbital one?
big ben 10 Posted August 24, 2010 i have only got a dual action, but have got good results on both the corrados i have used it on so havent bothered moving on to a rotary yet, might get the new dodo rotary though soon as it seems a good buy for £
OllieVR6 0 Posted August 24, 2010 I use an orbital polisher, haven't had enough practice yet but I will move on to a rotary eventually. Thanks for the tips on the pads, sounds like the menz and hex logic pads are both good, maybe I should get a sample of each....which sizes do you use? Have either of you got some photos or links (if you've posted to DW - which I think Big Ben has?). Thanks!

big ben 10 Posted August 24, 2010 viewtopic.php?f=11&t=83167&start=150 this was last year, have got all new gear and pads since then... now use dodo buff daddy and 5.5 inch pads, also the 4 inch spot pads, and also decent polishes
OllieVR6 0 Posted September 9, 2010 This is a 50/50 picture taken with my new work lights to show the results. Also testing out tapatalk on my phone :) Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 9, 2010 i find the power gloss is quite a big step up in polish, i have been using it with the white menz pad I have been polishing an escort i won on ebay and the power gloss seems to do a lot more cutting a lot more quickly than all the others i have, power finish and final finish, but its expected i spose, i also find i have to re-polish the paint afterwards as that combo doesn't leave it very shiny
Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 9, 2010 Here's my escort, had terrible paint, like it had been washing with a brillo pad Bonnet before :! After and a 50/
