Ed21 0 Posted November 9, 2010 I've just picked up a set of oz canyon 17x7-1/2 for my vr6, not my first choice but paid peanuts for them and they will let me put the 312 brakes on i've had knocking around for ages. I'm getting them back from the refinishers tomorrow so need to start thinking about which tyres to go for, i've never actually put a different set of rims on any car i've owned so not really experienced in changing rolling radius etc and could do with some advice on how different side wall heights, width and so on will affect gearing, handling, will arches need rolling etc? the car is on standard suspension. My local tyre firm has recomended: 215/40/17 Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers - Ed
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 9, 2010 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 work well. Most folk go with 205/40 though.
Abdul 0 Posted November 9, 2010 205/40 will give you a nice square sidewall, 215/40 is just going to look baloony but will be comfortable What are the offsets and how low is your car?

somersetdub 0 Posted November 9, 2010 Why go thinner than a 205 on a vr? Surely traction and grip will suffer since they had 205s as standard..
Ed21 0 Posted November 9, 2010 Cheers fellas, much appreciated. Seems there isn't going to be a huge amount of peformance difference in either 205's or 215's so as i'm pretty chummy with the local tyre firm i'll ask if they are happy to fit one of each and see what looks better. I can get a very good price on Falken 215's and as far as i'm aware can't get the same deal on 205's so that's quite likey to sway my decision. Any other suggestions on mid price brands people?
