fuel tank "pressed in"???

Hi,

 

I was sanding+undersealing a couple of surface rusts on the underneath of the rado and, as a good day of corrado ownership, every time you have a look anywhere you find more problems.

 

Today I've found that the fuel tank is kinda pressed in! I can't explain it better as I can't find the word (any help!!), but it looks like it's been hit by a rock or bumpstop or whatever :confused4: :confused4: :confused4:

 

How can I put it back to it's original shape?? Is it a tank out-of-the-car job, or can I use anything else?

 

It's not leaking though!!! (yet!) :nuts:

I know what you mean, its being pushed in some how. Is this really a probem though?

 

I'd leave it as long as its not leaking. Cant see how you'd push it back out. I suppose you could get your arm in if its was within reach and then it would probably be better off the car and empty.

proberbly tank off job, thought they used to blow air into them to get dents out ,but then you have the danger of the seam splitting. cant be to much for a second hand one can it ?

I'd leave it be as it's not leaking. Q? Is it causing bother? No, then don't touch.

yes, it's kr engine.

 

the only problem I find is that it'll have about 5 or a couple more Liters less of capacity :(

One thing might be possible.

 

Clean up the under tank outer surface, wet it and use one of those rubber sucker body panel pullers, if the depression is towards the centre and is a general pushed depression. The tank skin is no thicker than body panelling.

If the tank skin is the same thickness as the body panel, I'm sure the weight of a full tank's worth of petrol should be enough to push a dent out.
