digga 0 Posted February 17, 2004 I've got a lot of brake fluid leaking around the offside rear wheel. Assuming the seal has gone in the caliper is there anything I need to know about replacing this unit? I know I need to pump the brake and bleed the fluid out - is there a special way of doing this/ kit to buy/ tools etc? Also, I've been using Dot4 - I've seen threads mentioning Dot5.1, is this the right stuff for a 1.8 16v? Cheers! digga
Henny 0 Posted February 17, 2004 either DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 are OK in any Corrado, you can happily mix them too, so I'd be tempted to DOT5.1 it from now on... ;) The rear calipers are pretty easy to change, it's all pretty standard tool to do the job too... Have a look at getting a MKII Golf Haynes manual as the rear brakes are exactly the same (and it covers your engine too! ;) ) and has a good guide to changing them in there.... 8) If it's the seal that's gone (not uncommon!) then it's a lot easier to just get hold of a new / recon caliper rather than try to repair it yourself if you've never done brake caliper repairs before... 8)
