phil_arb 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Hi All, The last couple of days I have had a really loud screeching noise when pulling away and it can last 30 seconds before it stops. I assume it is a belt that is slipping. Which one is it likely to be and is it adjustable or will it need replacing? If it needs replacing, is it easy to do? Many thanks. Phil. PhatVR6 0 Posted February 18, 2004 my cam belt tensioner was squealing like mad when I revved it over 2500rpm. took the blet cover off to check if it was the tensioner, and it seized right in front of my eyes!! with the enging off, have a good twist and tug on all of the belts and see if any are worn or slack. daves16v 1 Posted February 18, 2004 A member of my family had this problem, turned out to be alternator belt slipping.

Depends on which engine you've got... 16V could be either belt (P/S or water/alternator) G60 it's most likely to be the P/S belt, but the charger belts do slip too, although I've yet to hear one screech... 8V Dunno, never worked on one, although I'd guess at the same as the 16V... VR6, again dunno.... If you've got one that's screeching, it's normally a good idea to replace both anyway... 8)
