Certainly in Scotland, foglights should only be used in weather conditions comprising visibility of 100 metres or less, particularly in fog or blowing snow. Over the year as a whole, these criteria are rarely reached in most of the UK. From heresay, the police here seem to delight in booking posers in swish motors who flaunt that law. IMO, these expensive glasses break so easily through thermal stress, it is best to leave the front fogs off unless the fog is so thick you are having to drive at 30 mph or less.
