Bean 0 Posted February 25, 2004 I have an oil leak on my vr it is going down the back of the engin! So i am sure it is the head gasket! Does the timeing chain hae to be changed when the head gasket is done? and what else would have to be done other than a posible skim! How much do you think this will cost? I was told that you can just tighten down on the head bolts as tight as you dare! but i am a bit worried to do this! cheers Dan
Guest Posted February 25, 2004 depends on the age of the car as to whether the chains would need doing. Vince (Stealth) said they should be done on mine as it had done 120k+, he wouldn't do the head gasket without doing the chains. price is set at 1,300 notes at stealth, and they'll want it for a week (sat to sat), the stealer was looking at £2,000+ and weren't gonna skim the head  first get it checked though, might not be as mad as you think
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 25, 2004 Before you fear the worst, check the rocker cover gasket and the breather hose. Both can leak spilling oil down the back of the engine! K
