Went to the Bentley factory today

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share with you all that today I had a fantastic trip to the Bentley factory in Crewe!!

My Boss from work is in the know and we were invited to attend in Owners factory tour, with some rather rich owners. We travelled down this morning and got there just before 11 am. We were greeted by the tour guide and offered some coffee. We were then taken into a room which isnt a museum, but houses some unique Bentleys including a Speed Six 'Blue Train' edition as pictured:

To appreciate what the car means, have a read of this:

We were then shown into the factory and went around the plant where the Conti GTC's, Flying Spur, Supersports and a nice seat in the brand new Conti GT! We were shown the steps of building and were overly impressed with the way they mount the engine to the exhaust, drive shafts, propo shatf and ancillary's and then lift it inot the chassis/body in about 60 seconds!!!

We were shown around the trimmers section and some of those seats and even the steering wheels are amazing!! The wokmanship is second to none and the smell of the cow hide is something else.

We proceeded to the wood working section. Wow!!! The way they build those works of art is truly amazing!!! We were given some nice wooden veneer gifts bearing the Bentley badge too ;)

We were then treated to lunch with the other guests before part two.

Part two consisted of looking at the new V8 engines and the W12 all being built. The W12 is effectively two VR6 engines, with one crank shaft, and is a mean feat in engineering.

Lastly, we were treated to the Mulsanne assemby line, which is unique in that every one is fully assembled in the factory (the other models come partially assembled) and there are some truly individual creations. Whilst there we were shown a lovely steering wheel and were informed that it is for the wife of the head of VW, as it is her birthday present and will be fitted to e Red Mulsanne!!! Not my cup of tea to be honest, but I look forward to seeing it in the press in the near future.

Once we'd been through and looked at some older engines and chewed the fat about engines and customer service - they really do look after their customers - we were escorted back to the main foyer, given a lovely Bentley publication and were on aour way back, in our fecking works Astra!! lol

Unfortunately cameras are prohibited so I have no pics to show you, but if any of you ever get a chance, make sure you go its immense!!!
