basically to get the screen to work right i need to connect an handbrake on wire,would i be able just to wire it up to a live so it thinks the handbrake is on?

No, you need to wire it to an earth (IIRC) The handbrake switch works the same as a door switch and makes contact with the car's chassis when you lift the handle. 8)

 

My Clarion's wired in with that wire connected to one of the RCA's earths, and it works all the time... 8)

I wired my friends to his glove box light, as it's more convineint to have the glove box open than the hand break on some times :) ** legal disclaimer to follow** etc

the handbrake wire is easy to find, it's under the driver seat, behind the support going across the floorpan for the the front seat rail support.
