Whats wrong with this engine pic?

Hi guys, any idea if this set up looks a little odd to you.

 

I notice the ISV is not in view running across the top/back of the rocker cover.

 

The plug that plugs into the ISV is not plugged into anything.

 

Are you able to run without one?

 

Plus anything else you guys notice.

if you don't mind keeping your foot on the throttle when idling, then I'm sure you could run without an ISV.

ahh ok, the car has always been like this. But it ticks over fine when warm.

 

I guess there must be one somewhere then, maybe its just been hidden behind the inlet somewhere.

 

Strange that the plug does not seem to be connected, maybe as it's a conversion into a golf a similar connector was not used and this is the one i see?

you sure it's the ISV and not one of the temp sensors / thermotime switch? That's gone on my 16v and it also won't idle when cold. The ISV is good though.

No thats where the isv should be dude!! Would explain the rough running too.

 

The pipework im sending you tomorrow connects to the isv, so youll be needing one ideally! I have two ;)

 

Need to see if you have the wiring loom connector knocking around in the bay too.

 

Ill try and email pics over in the morning, tomorrow is a very busy day already.

Ah sorry, I thought you were trying to diagnose rough running and noticed that the ISV had gone. I guess it's a good place to start!

cheers jim, I've got so much bloody work to do it's scary, haha.

 

But if the ISV was gone would it not just cut out, even when warm?

 

I didn't think it could run without a ISV? I'll have to have a gander when i'm next at my garage.

 

It runs spot on when driving, bit too well :crazyeyes: lol.

 

I might have to have one off you then but if anyone else can answer the question of, can a g60 run without an ISV that would be really helpful.

the black pipe underneathe the blue co pot one os where the isv attaches to, somebody has put a blank on it. i deleted the co pot on mine.

not the best pic, still had the standard cooler at this point. but hopefully you can get a bit of zoom on it.

 

there is no reason as to why you cannot run without an isv other than poor idle, it wouldnt really affect running once youve got your toe down.

as long as the idle switch on the TB isn't activating I don't think the ISV is in use. It's a very similar system on my Golf 8v digi. If you open the TB just enough to break the circuit with the contact on the top of the TB then it will stop using the ISV to idle and use the small amount of throttle you have open.

lol, so is the isv only used on startup when cold? As it ticks over fine when warm.

It just helps to keep a steady idle when the car is cold, not sure if it does anything when warm.

 

I ran mine without it for a month or so and didn't even notice!
