Finally got out to take some pictures of the Corrado yesterday, so I thought I'd better make a thread about it now.

My mum thought Go-go would be a good name for it because of the number plate. Ties in with Corrado meaning 'sprinter' quite nicely as well, so the name's stuck.

I got the car about a month ago as a 21st birthday present. My dad had to drive the 200 mile journey home as we weren't able to get insurance for me in time. Then it just sat in the garage for a couple of weeks before we got insurance. So apart from repositioning it on the drive occasionally I hadn't driven it until a few days ago. Pretty frustrating!

By jings it's a fast car, it's taking a bit of getting used to. I'm used to a Mini with a third of the displacement and a third of the power! I was a little scared the first time I drove it, trying to get used to the power. Really shoots forward above 3500 rpm. It feels a fair bit more cumbersome than the Mini as well, but like I said I'll need to get used to its nuances. Funnily enough I've been driving it slower than I would normally drive; I guess it's just nice to know the power's there should I need it.

As VR6s go it's a very unmolested example, which is what I was looking for. The only modifications from standard (as far as I know) are:

EBC Green Stuff brake pads

Larger brake discs (I think?)

K&N panel air filter

Long-life exhaust system

Toad immobiliser

The whole car (except the roof) was resprayed by the previous owner, so it really does look fantastic. Mechanically everything seems ok, the starter sounds slightly odd but all Corrados could sound the same for all I know. Sometimes it takes a couple of goes to start. The brakes rumbled a fair bit on the journey home, I put that down to lack of use, and they've settled down a bit now.The ABS light also came on on the way home. Since I've been driving it though it's not come on, except yesterday when it was on for about ten minutes (Immediately after I washed the car).

There are a couple of other electrical issues now too. The sunroof mysteriously stopped working, along with the courtesy lights next to the sunroof switch. The LED for the immobiliser now glows yellow instead of green when disarmed, and I'm sure when we first bought the car it took two presses of the fob, one to unlock and one to disarm, whereas now one press does both.

Thanks to just about everything on the Mini being mechanical, electrics are still a bit of a dark art for me, but I'll need to learn some time I suppose.

All I've changed since acquiring it is removing an incongruous heel-toe gas pedal attachment, and adding a few period cassette tapes! All the VW literature that came with the car is in great condition too, so it makes for a nice example. Hopefully I can take it to at least one show this year, as I really think I has it a chance of winning some prizes. (more than the Mini does anyway!)

Sadly this car is having the same effect on me as the Mini did; I don't think I'll ever want to (allow my dad to?) sell it.

It's the same for me. It was fine when the thread was first posted. Dunno where it's gone, maybe Jim will have an idea.

Edit: the original post isn't showing in the list of posts on my profile either.

Odd. I can see it, and have approved it twice now... not sure why it's not appearing... I'll keep trying some stuff!

you can certainly take better pictures than me Joss !

Sunroof sounds a bit odd -never done that before. Have you checked the plug into the light/sunroof switch unit hasn't come undone. It had it disconnected when i replaced the headlining not long before it was laid up - maybe its come loose ?

let me know if you get it to Bigger.

cheers

Hi Steve. I can't make it to Biggar unfortunately as the Thistle Run is the same day. Was gutted when I found out, was looking forward to it! There's a show closer to home (at Eglinton Park) in July that I'm hoping to take it along to.

Not sure what the issue with the sunroof is. I had the whole roof console out to see if it was damp, everything looked fine though, and was all hooked up. Electrics are a bit lost on me, might have to get an auto-electrician out to look at it. I could be totally wrong, but could the light in the boot be related? I noticed it was hanging out when we got the car back, but when I pushed it into the carpet it went out - maybe a loose connection or something. But it was not long after that the sunroof stopped working. I had a look in the fusebox as well, but everything looked ok.

Any ideas on the immobiliser? Was it always just one press of the button to unlock and disarm? The yellow LED thing is a bit weird - I think maybe both the red and green are staying on when it disarms.

Cheers mate, yeah it really does look new. Hopefully I can keep it that way! Although I'll be driving it more than Steve was planning to drive it I think :( It hit the 150k mark yesterday and I bloody missed it, was so annoyed. One minute it was like 149991 and the next I looked it was 150008

Failed it's MoT yesterday because of the brakes. Too imbalanced and a corroded brake hose valve or something - should be fairly cheap to fix though. Got an advisory for one of the front subframe mounts too.

The battery's not disconnected in that pic. What gave you that idea? The ignition was off, though.

At least its something relatively cheap to fix. It'll be back on the road no time. Thats a seriously nice corrado you have :D

I asked about the battery becuase the clock isnt showing, even with the ignition off the clock should be on and even the mileage.

I did wonder why the clock wasn't showing. That's another peculiarity actually, the clock resets to 0:00 when the car is switched off. So there's definitely a few electrical niggles to sort out!

Yeah - time and mileage should be visible on the clocks even when the ignition is completely off and the key is out!

Sounds like someone has wired them into the ignition live.

Yeah you will have some gremlins probably, it wouldn't be a Corrado without them!

Stunning. If only I had the cash to get mine resprayed, I'd love it to look like yours.

If we do a Scottish meet sometime, I'll be parking miles away from yours in order not to give me a showing up!
