Fault finding my spoiler

Recommended Posts

I tried the search to find more info on this but nothing is coming up on my problem, so I thought I would ask in hopes some electrical guru can lead me in the right direction

the spoiler won't come up auto, or even with the switch, so I just pulled out the control module for the spoiler and put a multimetre on it and it's saying it has a voltage on the two blue wires and the red/white one, so I assume its not a short or anything

so I put my hand on it and tried the manual switch, no ticking on it... am I right to assume for now that the module is just dead? or is there any other checks I can do

thanks in advance to whoever gets back to me :D

Is the manual switch on the spoiler mechanism engaged ? If it's pulled out it won't work !

If you unplug the spoiler at the boot end, there is two wires + & - run a couple of wires from the battery and test the motor, just reverse the wires and the motor goes down. If this works the motor is good. Now you need a multi-meter to start checking the wiring !

Good luck

Right i'll give that a try tomorrow and see if the motor is good, not sure what you mean about the manual switch  i've just tried it by pressing it and that was it

There's a black manual "switch" on the spoiler motor,it looks like a filled in figure eight, pull it towards you, twisting it raises and lowers manually !

right, cheers... i'll go try that today and test it all still works

i'm guessing then if it does, and the spoiler module has voltage going to it, then it really just leaves the module being what is at fault doesn't it

If the control box is fubard the spoiler over-ride switch "usually" still works the spoiler.Did the spoiler used to work ? The over-ride switch only works with the ignition lights (or car running) there maybe more than one fuse, check all fuses first !

The spoiler controls usually go for about £10 second hand,if you think it's the switch/control unit I have known good ones you could borrow and try,

Let us know how you get on

I don't think it has worked for a while having manually lifting it up today and finding a lot of green moss under it hahaha, i've only just got it so I don't know how long its not been working for. I suppose it could be both the switch and the control box that are gone, I got told though if you press the switch and the control unit doesn't click then it's dead and the spoiler won't work... but I dunno hahaha... i'm new to Corrado's

Run two wires to the spoiler and see if it works ! Pulling the toggle switch out and turning by hand by-passes the spoiler motor. We now know the cables all work, you need to test the motor, once that's ruled out, we can start testing the electrics.

Is the switch and control unit plugged in ?
