TajMan 0 Posted March 3, 2004 Alright I bought this total piece of $hit G60 and have done a ton of work on it to get it running better, including rebuilding the supercharger, but it still has a lot of problems. Right now the car is completely gutless under anything less than about 3,500 rpm's. At 3.5K it starts to really kick in and take off. I knew it was messed up but didn't realize how bad it was untill I drove a good running G60 today and all I can say is OMG!!! I wanted to get rid of this car and never see a corrado again but after driving this nice G60 I really want to buy another one. Any suggestions as as to what would make the car so gutless under 3.5K? It has new plugs, wires, cap & rotor, rebuilt supercharger, new air filter, a few recent oil changes with nice filters, etc... I think my supercharger and engine are both good because it has decent power above 3.5K. Right now it has an exhaust manifold bolt missing and a bad gasket so its REALLY loud. Henny 0 Posted March 3, 2004 DEFINATELY the vacuum hose between the throttle body and the ECU (or one of the other vaccuum hoses leaking)... The ECU pipe needs to be exactly 1meter (39inch) long else the car will run exactly how you describe... 8)

RACK 0 Posted March 3, 2004 I had this problem the over the weekend. If what henny says doesn't have an effect try the vac pipe coming off the throttle body housing/ inlet manifold that goes down to the back of the cam cover. It's only about 2and half inches long. Made my car run like poop when it was split!! @ Henny No dis intended, I replaced that pipe you said first, but it didn't work cos I over looked the other one. P.S. Have you put that G60 badge on I sent you?

Cool, no dis taken matey... 8) That's a good one to know about too... :) yeah, the badge is sat quite happily on my grille which is sat quite happily on my utility room floor along with quite a few other bits of the car...  It'll be there in pride of place when the car finally is back in one piece though... Thanks again for that... :) 8)
randal 0 Posted March 4, 2004 would this apply to a 1.8 16v too?
RACK 0 Posted March 4, 2004 Not sure about 16V. But I had a bit of a problem like that with my MK1. Try getting a new dizzy cap and rotor arm (about £12 for both). Sorted mine straight away. @Henny  8)
randal 0 Posted March 4, 2004 Henny, where art tho?! I woudn't say it's completely gutless sub 3K, but well - I'm sure there should be a little more grunt. Pulls like a train on steroids after 3K, I guess when the engine comes on cam... ...well, it's in getting a thorough service and good once over today. We'll see what the garage finds. Cheers randal

Cheers randal Huh? I'm here... Sounds like your timing is slightly off to me... The KR will also suffer if the vacuum hoses are damaged (same as any car that uses small diameter vacuum hoses for part of the ingnition timing!) so it's still worth checking them all out... The service may well cure all your problems though.... See what it's like afterwards and let us all know... 8)
randal 0 Posted March 4, 2004 I will do, expecting a call from the garage this afternoon - so fingers crossed, they (or maybe not) find something. Well, that is to say if the car survived the night. The guy running the garage is a close friend, but I'm sure his eyes sparkled when I gave him the key last night! Could have sworn that was my car going past at 120 this morning  hehehehehe. randal 0 Posted March 4, 2004 ah just spoke to him again, looks like he's gonan see what needs doing tonight. order parts (if needed), lock her up and crack on tomorrow morning. I'd rather he did that than rush it tonight... slightly :offtopic: I know - sorry guys! randal
TajMan 0 Posted March 7, 2004 Well I replaced the hose. Supposed to be 39 inches long and guess how long it was.......... 28 inches! Car has never run better while its been in my posession. :D Much thanks to you guys. I've still got a bunch of work to do but the car is getting close..... BTW how the heck do you get that hose back on the ECU easily? Luckily my hands were small enough to squeeze in there and barely get it but it was tight. The car has a bad exhaust leak on the manifold. I can see that one of the studs is missing/broken off inside the head. Do they use manifold studs and nuts or just regular bolts? Can I get my downpipe / exhaust manifold off while the engine is in the car? It looks like its gonna be a pain in the a$$, any tips?

YAY! good to hear that you've now got that part sorted out... 8) BTW how the heck do you get that hose back on the ECU easily? Luckily my hands were small enough to squeeze in there and barely get it but it was tight. Mine was replaced when I first had the supercharger rebuilt, so I've never had to get at it before... :-P The car has a bad exhaust leak on the manifold. I can see that one of the studs is missing/broken off inside the head. Do they use manifold studs and nuts or just regular bolts? Can I get my downpipe / exhaust manifold off while the engine is in the car? It looks like its gonna be a pain in the a$$, any tips? They're nuts on studs... you should be able to remove the manifold to downpipe connection with a bit of swearing with the engine in the car... it then depends on your luck as to whether you can then get the bolts out and then the manifold off the head. It's not easy to then remove the downpipe with teh engine in the car, but it is (apparently) do-able... I've replaced my downpipe with a stainless steel one while the engine's in bits just so I never have to touch it again ;) Some people I've spoken to reckon that it's easier to get the exhaust manifold off if you remove the inlet manifold first... for the extra couple of gaskets that it'll cost you, I can see where they are coming from... 8) Good luck! 8)
half-9 0 Posted March 8, 2004 hi - I have the same problem, but can't find: the vac pipe coming off the throttle body housing/ inlet manifold that goes down to the back of the cam cover. It's only about 2and half inches long. Made my car run like poop when it was split!! I can see only 2 vac pipes coming off the back of the inlet menifold, 1 goes to the ECU, the other comes around the front of the inlet manifold and over to the left of the engine bay and on to a black plastic junction of some sort?? - apologies for my ignorance. Anyone got a photo?? Cheers H
