Hi All... Room for a Golf?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've been a member on here for a while but not really said much yet.

Finally I'm at that age where I'm earning a reasonable amount, but I don't yet have kids and a reasonably small mortgage... so there's cash to be spent on the wholesome goodness of tuning my MkII VR6 Golf! It's an Oak Green 3dr, stripped out interior, pretty good condition, wheels and coilovers and of course the big 6 but other than that fairly tame at the moment.

After a year (actually might be two now) of getting used to that blissful noise and tidying up a few bits, I heard a bit of a rattle and whipped the head off to find that lo and behold the exhaust valve guides are knackered after only about 40k. And at this point it seemed rude not to put some good quality replacement parts in and some better cams... so the hardware has been ordered from the right honourable Mr Schimmel and is on its way.

I'm very interested in the turbo charging business and have read the whole forced induction thread back to back over the last few weeks. Took some doing... I can't imagine what it was like before it got stripped back!

One thing that has really struck me in the forced induction thread and others is the quality, depth and diplomacy of discussion! (Maybe all the bickering got removed lol). You all take so much time to explain things and answer others questions in such articulate detail, and clearly have a real passion and understanding for your subject. For a long time I've tended to keep quiet about what I like to play around with in the garage as so many just class it off as childish 'boy racer' antics, so its really encouraging to see such intelligent discussion and people like yourselves working so hard to achieve technical goals and build such great machines. It's got to be better than spending it on new kitchens and expensive furniture.

So thanks all for the wealth of info I've already gained and hope to be able to share my own project and guidance with you all.

Mike
