C-mann 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Just bought a C VR6 but the idle speed seems to rise and fall between 500 and 650, sometimes falls even lower than 500 then rises again to 650 just before it stalls. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 9, 2004 Does it jump and down like that when idling or just drop down low as you drop the clutch pulling up to a junction? My immediate thoughts are the idle valve but they're pretty reliable on the VR6, so try cleaning it out with some carb cleaner first and then you really need to get the engine on a diagnostic scanner (such as VAG-COM) and check the adaption limit hasn't been reached for the idle valve. If it has then it means the ECU has no control over it and it'll do as it pleases! Resetting the ECU (disconnect the battery negative lead for 15 mins) will restore the settings.
