Crossovers needed desperately...

I've been given some MB Quart 13cm speakers for my Corrado and have now been told by Huets that they need seperate crossovers which I don't have, does anyone know how I may be able to get hold of these, PLEASE!!

 

Please help someone.

Sorry but I dont know what crossovers to get from Maplins.

Looking for help as I dont have a clue about speakers, well i just dont have a clue full stop, lol.

Any help from anyone would be brill.

for 13cm speakers you'll probably want a high pass filter, there should be networks listed as "high pass filters" on maplins, or try RS at http://rswww.com.

Phone your local branch of Maplins or your local in-car-entertainment suppliers & give them the details of what speakers you have - info sticker will be on the back of the speakers & on the box if you have it. Crossovers are not universal things, they should usually be tailored to fit the speakers. Front door component speakers usually consist of a tweeter & mid bass driver. These will usually be okay with just a "high pass" filter instead of a "crossover". The mid bass takes the full range & the high frequencies are filtered into the tweeter.

I've been told that the speakers are most probably the KX series, I'm still waiting for MB Quart.com to get back to me but I've been told by Huets they are coaxal speakers with seperate tweeters and mid bass with a seperate crossover rather than one on the speaker or something like that, I don't have a clue what they are on about but to get the number on the back, etc it means taking the damn door cards off again, if only they could have given me that info at the time rather than putting them on and then telling me I need crossovers, so any help would be great.

Could someone please tell me where I find out what I need or who could I speak to as MB Quart.com haven't got back to me yet, especially as someone has these Kenwood crossovers.

As you can see from this list (taken from Maplin's site), there are a fair amount of different crossovers available. Virtually all Maplins stores have a ICE specialist working there - this person will be able to advise you which would suit your individual needs & speakers.

 

The main enemy of speakers is distortion - incorrect frequencies fed into a speaker will increase distortion & shorten the lifespan of the speaker voice coils

I just spoke to someone else at Huets, Peter Huet and he has said to come in tomorrow and he will get it sorted, he has said he will have something kicking around that will work so after work tomorrow it is but I will ring Maplin and see what would be best.
