tony_ack 0 Posted September 22, 2011 tony_ack: Have you tried adding a couple of named drivers? And a partner, if you have one. I was playing around with one of those comparison websites the other day, and adding my 2 sisters (They are 40 &41 years old, clean licenses) to the policy reduced it by about 20%... even though they'd never drive the bloody car. Adding a spouse knocked another 10% off I've added my partner as a named driver as I'd want her fully comp on the Corrado anyway (I'm also on her Golf and probably increase the price...). She has three points on her licence. I played around with the Admiral quote and if I removed her the price went from £980 to £1290. I could add my sister, but she has 9 points, is 24, and to be honest, I wouldn't want to insure her!
tony_ack 0 Posted September 22, 2011 Wow, I'm dreading my next policy renewal, granted not till next year now but after reading this I'm already bricking it lol, I have been driving for 2 years now and my first year was around £840 with Quickfit fully comp mods declared kept on the drive. This year I'm with Performance Direct, mods declared fully comp £190. I guess you cant really rely on what someone else pays for their car to get a ball-park-figure for your own. Very true, that's the lesson here. Several factors are against me 1. The biggest is that the car is not over 20 years old AND I do more than 3000 miles a year. This excludes me from pretty much all classic car policies. If either of those statements wasn't true, I'd be okay. 2. My postcode is high risk and rules me out for a couple of underwriters 3. The mods mean I can't go through a mainstream company (except Admiral) and comparison sites will always come back blank 4. My age and no claims are fine, but the non-fault accident will increase the premium for those that will cover me The Brentacre quote I got is underwritten by Highway, who initially came back with a price of £3600 until the agent spoke to them. ---------- Post added at 05:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:53 PM ---------- Parents? It doesn't help that they live 50 miles away!
Jim 2 Posted September 22, 2011 I don't think that matters mate. You can put them down as named drivers? They don't have to live locally or anything at all! Perfectly legitimate that you might visit them 10-20 times a year and your dad likes to drive the VR and you want to make sure he's fully covered? mattyattitude 10 Posted September 24, 2011 im with that highway which i got through adrian flux, and mines only £1,300 with all mods declered ie bigger engine, custom exhaust, suspension, interior and sound system but ive said im only gonna do like 3000 miles in it a year
tony_ack 0 Posted October 17, 2011 Ok an update on this... As some of you have probably seen I'm retiring the Corrado as a daily. It's not just because of the insurance costs, but those, along with the cost of fuel are definitely the catalysts. £880 from Brentacre remained my cheapest quote. When I insure the Corrado again next year, I think as long as I keep miles limited to 3000 miles a year, I'll qualify for the classic policies. Does anyone know if insurance companies will mind if the garage I store the car in is NOT at my home address?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 17, 2011 Bear in mind if your car isn't insured and it's suffers damage in someone else's (or your own) garage, you're not covered.
Jim 2 Posted November 4, 2011 Give Footman James a call mate.. I'm insuring my car in a lockup garage away from home, 3000 miles a year (though think I'm going to need to up that to at least 5000 soon), mods declared and I'm paying under £300 a year... tony_ack 0 Posted November 28, 2011 I'm incredibly tempted to get the Corrado covered now for weekend use, I'm really missing driving it! Footman James quoted me £380 with all mods declared, stored in the lockup overnight, on 3000 miles per year. Think getting it on the road again will be my 30th birthday present to me :-) Will also need to tax it, but may get 6 months so I can stagger the outlays for insurance and tax. tony_ack 0 Posted September 30, 2013 Okay, it's an old thread, but... What a difference a couple of years make. I've just got my quotes back for the Corrado, fully comp, 7 years NCB, all mods declared, 12000 miles per year, parked on the street outside the house. Greenlight/Sky - sub £500 Brentacre £400 Adrian Flux £385 I went with Brentacre in the end as they were slightly cheaper than Flux when paying monthly. twitch4685 10 Posted October 12, 2013 new to this forum, currently been driving 4 years, with 4 years no claims but will have been driving 5 years in April 2014 and have 5 years no claims. Looking at getting a corrado vr6 in April 2014. Just got a quote on this car with 5 years no claims and 5 years driving experience, car value of £2.5k, 10,000 miles a year, parked on side of road. And these are the insurance quotes I am getting.. These dont seem too bad if you ask me?!?!
tonytiger 0 Posted October 12, 2013 I would agree! Lucky you. Perhaps your postcode is an ultra low risk area. Are you married with 2.4 children and a job which is in the lowest risk category?
twitch4685 10 Posted October 19, 2013 ha no children, NR1 postcode (Norwich) and will be 28 in April. Work as a credit controller.
